Swedish judiciary sentences ISIS woman only 3 months

The courts of European countries continue to issue lenient sentences that are not commensurate with what ISIS mercenaries have done. Which does not contribute to deterring people who want to join mercenaries.

A Swedish court convicted a 35-year-old woman who joined ISIS mercenaries in Syria, who returned to her country in 2017, for publishing pictures of herself with severed heads in the city of Syria in 2014, and ignoring her joining ISIS.

Fattoush Ibrahim was sentenced to three months in prison, which is a reduced sentence that does not deter those who want to join the ranks of mercenaries.

"Fattoush Ibrahim published on two occasions pictures of severed heads hanging on a rotating fence in the Syrian region of Raqqa, which were placed by ISIS militants there," the Göteborg District Court said.

Ibrahim used her mobile phone to take pictures of herself in Al-Naeem Square in Raqqa, where ISIS mercenaries displayed bodies or hanging heads.

In its ruling, the court said that Fattoush had posted on Facebook "comments contemptuous of the people shown in the photos and expressing their entitlement to what they were subjected to." It added that the woman "clearly expressed her sympathy for the actions of ISIS, and her actions were considered related to the armed conflict that was taking place in the region at the time."

In early March, the Special Criminal Court sentenced a French woman returning from Syria to 10 years in prison, after 5 years she spent among ISIS mercenaries, and she was arrested in 2018.

In early March, the Danish judiciary sentenced a woman named "Elmina Alijic" to 4 years in prison, who entered Syria with her husband, who is a member of ISIS mercenaries, and stayed in the city of Raqqa during the presence of ISIS. In 2021, the Danish authorities received three women and 14 children from the Syrian Democratic Forces, one of whom was sentenced a year ago to 3 years in prison.

This was preceded by numerous trials of ISIS affiliates, but lawyers familiar with the matter say that they were not fair procedures for those affected by ISIS mercenaries.
