Al-Asr Office : Leader's Isolation contradicts law, democracy in Turkey

Al-Asr Human Rights Office issued a written statement confirming that it had not received information about the leader Abdullah Ocalan and the other detainees. Omer Khairi Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş, two years ago.

On March 25, 2021, the leader Abdullah Ocalan made a contact with his brother that lasted for a few minutes.

The statement read:

“We do not have any information about their health condition because we have not been able to visit them in any way.

Although lawyers submitted 274 and 118 families a request to meet with the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bursa and the Imrali Island Prison Directorate.

No results have been obtained for two years, and all legal and administrative appeals from the local court to the Constitutional Court have failed, and judicial institutions have shown Once again its support of the isolation in Imrali.

No information was received about the leader Abdullah Ocalan and the other clients, and this cannot be explained by any law or rights. Isolation from society and the world, deprivation of legal protection and their families in circumstances beyond control and unpredictable, come in the sense of torture and inhumane acts.

UN's committee also accepted the request to take measures as a matter of priority, and demanded the government put an end to illegal detention in September 2022, and because of ignoring this decision, The government was reminded of the urgent request in January 2023, and although proceedings regarding the benefits of the application are still ongoing, the death sentence stated that conditions in Imrali contravened the prohibition of torture and must be terminated immediately.

UN action decisions must be implemented

Turkish state continued in this case by not establishing absolute relations, and the greater the importance of these international decisions regarding the leader Abdullah Ocalan And the isolation in Imrali, the state's disrespect for politics and its illegality increased, this explains the state's policies in Imrali in Turkey and the policies of the Middle East, and it creates crisis and chaos in every direction with security policies instead of peace and democratic politics.

In short, the isolation of Imrali means the abandonment of law and democracy in Turkey, and of course, this creates a domino effect that harms the material and moral values of society and also harms social and political life.

The Kurdish Cause must be resolved and Imrali's isolation must be ended, as leader Abdullah Ocalan defined democracy and international law as the basic political framework and this is the only way out of the crisis.

We reaffirm that two years ago, despite international decisions, the  prison conditions has not ended, and that this situation is dangerous for us.

These concerns must be resolved quickly, and decisions issued by the Human Rights Committee should be implemented.

Human rights of the United Nations immediately, as all rights of agents arising from legal and international agreements should be guaranteed, in particular visits by lawyers, and we call on democratic public opinion to be highly sensitive with this mentality and expectation."
