The Kurdish people faced the beginning of the twentieth century, cultural and physical genocide, and painful events. March witnessed these tragedies, as it was permeated by the execution of the President of the Republic of Mahabad Qazi Muhammad, the Algiers Agreement between Iran and Iraq, the Halabja massacre, the Anfal campaign and massacres, the Qamishlo uprising, and the lighting of the Newroz flame from  before Kawa, the era was Mazloum Dogan in Amed prison, and the leader Masum Korkmaz (Agid) was martyred.

The week of resistance and historic heroism in the history of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement begins with the flame of Newroz, and ends with the anniversary of the martyrdom of the leader Agid (Masoum Korkmaz) on March 28.  This day has different meanings for the Kurdish and Kurdistan people.

Mazloum Dogan is one of the most prominent activists of the Week of Resistance and Heroism

Mazloum Dogan, or (Modern Kawa) as the Kurdish people like to call him, was born in 1955 in the village of Tahman, in the Mizkir/Dersim district of Bakur (Northern Kurdistan).  He joined the ideological group of the PKK in 1976, and was arrested by the Turkish authorities on September 30, 1979.

In the early eighties, Mazloum launched his immortal cry to this day before the Turkish Military Court in Amed, “Resistance is life,” or its Kurdish equivalent (Berxwedan Jiyane).

A source of inspiration and morale for his comrades and a source of inspiration for the dissemination of thought

Mazloum was one of the most prominent founding cadres of the PKK, so he was entrusted with the duties of a member of the Central Council of the party. He was subjected to less torture in Amed Central Prison, and the Turkish state was unable to obtain any information from him.

Mazloum was a source of inspiration for his comrades. He changed the course of events in prison, and thus his resistance became a source of inspiration for spreading the PKK's ideology based on equality and coexistence.

News of his resistance infiltrated all the Kurds.

Political prisoners, the Turkish left, and other Kurdish parties who were detained in the same prison were influenced by the personality of Mazloum Dogan. They were witnesses to his mighty resistance.

News of the resistance and struggle shown by Mazloum Dogan leaked to the Kurdish streets and neighborhoods in Northern Kurdistan, through visitors and the released. The Kurds were inspired by their struggle from the resistance of the martyr Mazloum against the Turkish state.

 Create a life of resistance

Martyr Mazloum celebrated Newroz in his prison by lighting three matches, as he set fire to his body to rise as a martyr on March 21, 1982, and these wooden sticks lit up the path of a people bereaved by tragedies. He became the birth of love for a people buried in the depths of history and displaced through time, and sent a light that shines from it  hope and revives the heart of the Kurds with the spirit of resistance to create a life of resistance.

"A modern Kawa will appear everywhere witnessing laughing oppressors."

Leader Abdullah Ocalan called the martyr Mazloum the "moving library" because of his wide horizon and intense focus, as he used to read 500 pages daily, and lectured on its contents, in what the Kurdish people called the "contemporary kawa";  For his heroic resistance and the fact that he initiated his argument during his trial with the sentence: "A contemporary Kawa will appear everywhere witnessing unjust laughter."

With Mazlum Dogan joining the caravan of immortals, the PKK raised the level of struggle, declaring the armed struggle to avenge the atrocities committed by the Turkish state against the Kurdish people and the pioneers of the freedom movement, led by Masum Korkmaz.

Commander Agid and the march of the armed struggle

Agid (Masoum Korkmaz) was born in 1956 in the Farqin district of Amed, Bakur (Northern Kurdistan).  His family moved to Ayla when he was young and he grew up there. He also began working and fighting for freedom in the city itself. He was introduced to the Kurdistan Freedom Movement in 1976, through Mazloum Dogan, and began ideological and political training.

Masum Korkmaz was one of the founders of the Kurdistan Liberation Forces and one of the planners of the August 15, 1984 jump. Through which the liberation war against the Turkish state began, according to which the party's military wing was announced under the name of the Kurdistan Liberation Forces (HRK).

The leader, Masum Korkmaz, played an effective role and took upon himself the task of leading the armed struggle in charge of starting the campaign. The July 14th Platoon for the Armed Struggle carried out its first operational operation by raiding Aroh, and it was the most powerful operation of the August 15th campaign. The first bullet was fired into the chests of the Turkish occupation soldiers in the district of Dahi and liberated it as a whole.  .

The Kurdish people considered this day a new birth and revival for them, because it broke the chain of slavery and surrender.  After two years of organization and arming in different regions of Northern Kurdistan, on March 28, 1986, he was martyred in a battle against the Turkish occupation army in Mount Kabbara.

 Heroic week

The Kurdistan Workers' Party is known as the Martyrs' Party, and every martyrdom means another step towards achieving the goals. The Kurdish people and the components of the region remember the martyrs of the heroic week with various activities and events, and affirm their commitment to achieving victory and escalating the struggle. The date between March 21 and March 28 is known as the week of resistance and heroism, and it acquired its true meaning from the struggle and resistance of the founding pioneers of the PKK.

What did the leader Abdullah Ocalan say about the two martyrs?

Leader Abdullah Ocalan said about the martyr Mazloum: "Comrade Mazloum was one of our comrades who knew our approach well. He knew the spirit of our party well, and was careful and moved according to it. In fact, he was a very valuable figure. He embodied the PKK himself, represented the essence and peak of the life of the PKK."

As for the martyr Agid, the leader Abdullah Ocalan said: “Comrade Agid was a prominent leader who understood that it was necessary to receive Newroz with great hopes and fight accordingly, and he himself believed that even in the most difficult circumstances it was possible to take firm and unwavering steps, and in this way he determined that the tactic  our party will set a model in the world, and at the same time it was a conscious and wise leader in the process of determining the fate of the Guerrilla army, our people, and our armed struggle from the beginning.
