​​​​​​​ Iranian state issues prison, death sentences to 10 people from Urmia

 The uprising of “women, life, freedom” continues in Iran and eastern Kurdistan, which erupted following the killing of the Kurdish young woman, Gina Amini, at the hands of the morality police in September 2022. Despite the killings, arrest campaigns, and executions against protesters, these protests continue without interruption.

 The Iranian authorities sentenced 10 people to prison and death in the city of Urmia in Eastern Kurdistan.

 The website of the Human Rights Network in Kurdistan reported that the "Revolutionary Court" in the city of Urmia has sentenced 5 people to 10 years in prison in the past few days, and sentenced 5 citizens from Urmia province to death.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network stated that the ten people who were sentenced are from the city of Urmia and were charged with “participation and cooperation in espionage for Israel.”

 According to information received by the Human Rights Network in Kurdistan from a source who did not wish to be named, these prisoners were forced to accept the allegations of the trial against them under threat and torture, but after their trial they denied these accusations and said that they accepted the charges against them when they were threatened and tortured.

 Many people in Iran and Eastern Kurdistan have already been sentenced to death on the same charge of “espionage for Israel,” and death sentences have been applied against some of them.
