Labor and Freedom Coalition, which includes HDP, will not present a candidate for presidency

The Labor and Freedom Alliance announced its position on the Turkish elections during a press conference held at the World Trade Center in Ankara. The press conference was attended by the co-chairs of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Barwin Buldan and Medhat Sinjar, the general president of the left-wing Green Party, Ibrahim Akin, the head of the Turkish Action Party (EMEP), Arkeyo Ment Akdeniz, the general president of the Turkish Workers' Party (TÎP), Erkan Baş Hakan Ozturk, General President of the Labor Movement Party (EHP), Spokesperson for the Socialist Councils Union (SMF), Barış Kayaoğlu, Spokesperson for the Social Freedom Party (TOP), Juliana Cousin and representatives of the Kurdish parties in the Kurdistan Alliance, which also includes the HDP.

The joint statement of the Labor and Freedom Alliance was read by the co-chair of the HDP, Barwin Buldan. The text of the joint declaration regarding the coalition's position on the Turkish presidential elections came as follows:

"There is less than two months left for one of the most sensitive elections in the history of Turkey. We are witnessing a historic phase that will determine the future of the country and society. At this time before the second centenary of the Republic, the election of the 13th president will take place and the parliament will be reconfigured again.

The social and economic policies pursued by the ruling Justice and Development Party over the past 20 years caused a major collapse in all areas of life, as it restricted freedoms and continued to commit uninterrupted practices of oppression and injustice. The multiple problems, the lack of a solution, and the current crisis are exacerbating day after day. The power of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the National Movement wasted society's time during this period and threatened its future as well.

The one-man system bound the Turkic peoples

This political authority, which is a nightmare for the country, practices all forms of oppression and has brought a one-person government to all parts of the country. The "presidential system" has restricted the peoples of Turkey and tightened their grip on them.

Turkey is in dire need of a strong and true democracy based on the sovereignty of the people. We demand a system that recognizes freedom and universal rights, adherence to the constitution, in which standards of democratic law prevail, and in which economic and social rights are guaranteed. This goal will not be possible unless there is a strong local democracy in which local participatory mechanisms operate.

We, a country and a people, will wake up on the morning of the 15th of next May full of hope. All people of conscience aspire from our people and demand the supremacy of the forces capable of bringing about democratic change in parliament. For the sake of a peaceful and democratic solution to the Kurdish issue, parliament is seen as representing the true and clear will, as a transparent dialogue takes place with the addressees, and citizens build the future in a way that prevails with equality, freedom and peace.

The coalition of labor and freedom represents the demands of the oppressed

The Alliance of Labor and Freedom represents the demands of the oppressed and the toiling, it represents the will to build and the power of democratic change. it is the sole representative and custodian of peoples' rights. It embodies the struggle against the destruction of nature, and guarantees the free life of the youth. It is the key to bringing Turkey's future to democracy.

The Labor and Freedom Alliance will build a life for women that guarantees their freedom. We will never allow women to be ignored and excluded. We guarantee women a future of freedom and equality in all aspects of life. We are the strongest advocates for equal representation of women in politics. Our coalition will fight with all its might to re-implement the Istanbul Agreement and guarantee all women's gains under the constitution.

We are determined to consolidate the democratic sovereignty of the peoples in Turkey through equality and decades of experience and struggle approach.

With our strength, and the strength of the forces insisting in Parliament on action, justice and peace, and with the strength of the forces demanding democratic change, Turkey will transform into a democratic state. We are the real alternative to our people who seek to disperse them between the one-person regime and change.

We will fulfill our historical responsibility

In the presidential elections, we will fulfill our historical responsibility against the one-man regime. In order to achieve democracy, freedom, basic rights and social justice in the country, we are determined to hold this corrupt and plundering authority accountable.

That is why we announce to the public opinion that we will not present a candidate for the presidential elections. Our direct goal and the reason for our struggle is to improve the working and living conditions and conditions of the people, to ensure justice in public administration, to achieve gender equality within society, to give youth a free life, to respect nature, to pursue foreign policies based on peace, for the judiciary to be independent, for all identities to be free, and most importantly, for the status of a democratic constitution guarantees all of this.

Turkey does not need war, but rather wise agreement and peace. It needs a comprehensive, real and lasting solution to political and social issues. A person who creates strife in society and creates crises in it, and destabilizes internally and externally by creating enemies and ignoring the people's demands, cannot win.

The march towards a bright future and the consolidation of political democracy is through joint struggle, great hope, and taking bold steps towards a new life and policies that respond to the needs and aspirations of society.
