Turkish police torture Kurdish child, force him to say "I am Turkish"

Yesterday, the Turkish police in Amed district, in Bakur (Northern Kurdistan), arrested the 14-year-old (Y.D.), while he was returning home with his friend, then kidnapped and tortured him.

According to the Mesopotamia news agency, the police first took him to a field beside the road, then forced him to say "I am Turkish" and ordered him to curse the Kurds and sing the Turkish national anthem; Then they pummelled him.

The police muzzled the child's mouth, tortured him to death, tied his hands and feet, and placed him in a ditch beside a river, only to be discovered by a villager during the night hours, and taken to the hospital, and it became clear that one of his eyes had been damaged.

(Y.D.) said that he was tortured by four police officers, "They took me to a secluded place, and ordered me to say (I am Turkish), and beat me with the tip of the weapon, then tied my hands and feet and threw me in a ditch."

"Say I am Turkish and insult the Kurds"

The family’s lawyer, Ramadan Kara Alp, commented on what happened to the child (Y.D.), saying: “The child lives in the center of Leja district, and the police stopped him yesterday while he was returning home with one of his friends, leaving his 10-year-old friend and taking him to a isolated place . Then the police beat him with the ends of the weapons and ordered him to say (I am Turkish) and cursed the Kurds.”

After refusal of the child the police  orders, the police threatened to kill him, then threw him in a ditch beside the river that passes through the district, while he was gagged and his hands and feet were bound. After that, a villager found him and took him to the hospital in Lajh. Then he was transferred to the Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine at Dijla University.

 The child is now receiving treatment in the hospital, and he is at risk of losing his right eye if it continues to bleed as a result of the severe beating.
