Martyr Khaled Fajr Hospital may be out of service if siege continues

 The Damascus government has imposed an unjust siege on the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods for more than 5 years. It has prevented the entry of foodstuffs, fuel and medicines into the two neighborhoods.  This affected all aspects of life in them, especially the health sector, especially after its intensification since August 2022.

 The co-chair of the Martyr Khaled Fajr Hospital, Othman Sheikh Issa, confirmed that " what has been most affected in them is the health sector, especially the Martyr Khaled Fajr Hospital."

 The only hospital in the two neighborhoods, which have a population of about 200,000 people.

 An aid convoy consisting of 25 trucks has been waiting for 7 days, at the Al-Tayha crossing separating the areas of the Autonomous Administration and the areas of the Damascus government, to cross to the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, but the Damascus government prevents its crossing.

Sheikh Issa said about the situation of the hospital, "Khalid Fajr Hospital was originally a school, then it turned into a hospital, and it served the people with its various departments, internal, pediatric, gynecological, general, urological, ophthalmological, cardiac, neurological, and vascular, and the laboratory, radiology, echo, and especially operations departments, whether they were from the neighborhood or outside it."  , while it is now having difficulty providing the same care.”

 He pointed out what the hospital needs, in light of the Damascus government’s siege.  He said: "The hospital is in need of medicines and medical devices, and it may be out of service in light of the imposed blockade."

 He pointed out that the medicines were basically insufficient in the hospital;  Because of the blockade, and after the catastrophic earthquake that struck the region, and with the increase in the number of patients, the hospital needed more equipment and medicines to provide services to the people.

 Regarding the international aid that reached the two neighborhoods after the earthquake, Sheikh Issa noted that the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh did not receive their share of it.
