​​​​​​​Women's Forum kicks off in al-Hasaka

The Local Administration and Environment Authority in North and East Syria organized today (March 4), in coordination with the Women's Coordinator in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and the Center for Geological Studies, a forum for women and their role in the Local Administration and Environment Authority at the level of NE Syria, under the slogan "Women, Life, Freedom towards the women's revolution.

About 150 members of political parties, women's organizations, the Zenobia Women's Gathering, and the Young Women's Union, in addition to members of the Local Administration and Environment Authority in NE Syria, are participating in the forum, which is being held in the Shetou Resort, located in the town of Tweina, in the city of al-Hasaka.

The forum started with an opening speech, by the co-chair of the Local Administrations and Environment Authority in the Autonomous Administration; Elham Matalti, who  welcomed the participants who came from all parts of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

Matalti added, "We meet in an exceptional situation and in the midst of circumstances surrounding NE Syria, where the earthquake claimed the lives of thousands of Syrian people, in addition to the Turkish threats to the region."

Matalti affirmed that despite all the current and harsh conditions that surround women and the masculine mentality that has been going on for decades, thanks to their continuous struggle and renewed hope, women have made qualitative steps in establishing a democratic system.

She stated that the first step is to prepare the woman psychologically and intellectually to shake off the dust of what she suffered from injustice and male mentality, and the customs and traditions to exclude her from all aspects of life.

Matalti stressed that the society of NE Syria is a society in which the movement of historical expansion and social development is active, which requires the active participation of women in the theory of construction and development.

According to its program, the forum includes two sessions, the first session consists of four axes, as the first axis of the first session deals with "the equal life" and was received by the member Nofa Ali.

As for the second axis, it is entitled "The joint presidency between the theoretical concept and practical application," and it was received by the co-chair of the Executive Council in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Berivan Khaled.

The third axis includes show the role of women in the world's municipalities, based on an international example.

While the fourth axis sheds light on the role of women in the municipalities of Islamic countries, and the role of women in the municipalities in NE Syria after the revolution of July 19, 2012, and receiving Esthera Murad, the co-chair of the Local Administration and Environment Authority in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Jazira region.

As for the second session, it consists of three axes, the first axis is entitled "The relationship of nature and its role in preserving the environment," and it was received by the head of the technical office in the municipality of Manbij, Alaa Kasmo.

As for the second axis, it is entitled "The system of women's offices in the municipality, its mechanism of work, and the role of women in the municipality's departments." It was received by the administrator, responsible for the women's office in the Local Administration and Environment Authority in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Jazira region, Jane Bakr.

While the third and final axis revolves around the "project work strategy, the model project, and the model municipality", it is managed by the Deputy Co-Chair of the Local Administration and Environment Authority in the Jazira region, Berivan Omar.
