​​​​​​​Prominent role of communes in Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh neighborhoods after earthquakes

 The devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and several areas in Syria, on February 6, and the recent earthquake on February 20, caused great material and human losses and damages. The city of Aleppo had the largest share of victims and losses, especially the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods.

 The communes played a major role in mitigating the repercussions of the earthquake in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, by securing housing for the people living in high buildings in the eastern part of the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, in the western part of it, where the non-storey houses are.

 In this regard, the co-chair of the Martyr's Council, Robar Qamishlo, based in the western part of Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, Badran Hamo, spoke to our agency about the work done since the start of the earthquake, and he said, "We have been at the helm of our work since the start of the first earthquake."

 He continued, "We worked to preserve the lives of the people living in tall buildings, most of which are located in the eastern section of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, by moving them to Arab homes in the western part of the neighborhood."

 Hamo indicated that in addition to opening the empty houses, they cooperated with the General Council and the People's Protection Units securing shelters in schools, mosques and wedding halls.

 He indicated that they distributed food and relief materials provided by the Kurdish Red Crescent, and he said: "The Damascus government hinders the arrival of aid to us."

 Houria Bilal, a citizen who took refuge in the tents erected in the shrine of the martyrs of the resistance of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, confirmed that the communes had played their role perfectly and said: "They secured shelters for us after our homes were damaged, and provided us with aid."

 The councils in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods are divided into three lines, the martyr Kalhat line of the eastern section of Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, the martyr Robar Qamishlo of the western part of the neighborhood, and the martyr Genghis line of the Ashrafieh neighborhood in Aleppo, and each council includes several communes.
