Occupation of Afrin is part of a broad plan to occupy areas included in “Misak-ı Millî”

Political activist Gabriel Mustafa explained that the main goals of the Turkish occupation state in occupying the occupied Afrin canton is to implement the Misak-ı Millî and impose the Salafist mentality in the canton and the rest of the occupied regions.

5 years after the start of the Turkish attack on the occupied Afrin canton on the 20th of January 2018, which led to the occupation of the canton on the 18th of March of the same year, the Turkish occupation state was not content with occupying the canton militarily.

The Turkish occupation state followed its military occupation with several other steps, including the displacement of the canton's residents and the settlement of mercenary families from different Syrian regions, as well as the recruitment of mercenaries from several countries.

The occupying power imposed the Turkish language and currency on the province and converted the names of the villages into Turkish names, along with the names of squares and public facilities.

The occupation implements the plans of its Ottoman ancestors

The political activist Gabriel Mustafa talked about gradual steps taken by the Turkish occupation state during the 5 years of occupation, and said, "The Turkish occupation state is pursuing the policy of its ancestors in occupying the Syrian regions, and applying it in stages; from launching attacks on it, displacing its population, and changing its demography, to dismantle society and destroy it." nature, plundering goods, stealing antiquities, and even changing them.”

Mustafa pointed out that the occupation of Afrin is part of a broad Turkish strategy aimed at occupying the area included in the Misak-ı Millî, and added, "When the Turkish occupation state intervened in the Syrian crisis file, it had its objectives, including the implementation of the Misak-ı Millî, which stipulates in one of its clauses that the borders of the modern Turkish occupation state, extending from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to Kirkuk and Mosul in the east, with a depth of 45 km in areas with a Sunni majority.

Imposing the Ottoman mentality in occupied Afrin

The political activist also referred to other goals of the Turkish occupation state in the region, and Mustafa said, "The Turkish occupation state seeks to exploit all the components of the region, especially the Sunni component, and to impose the Salafist mentality on it, and this is what we see in schools in the occupied Afrin canton, and to create the phenomenon of slavery, as happened in the days of The Ottomans, and today slavery is imposed on Erdogan's personality, by raising his images and slogans that support him, sanctifying the Turkish language, and imposing dealings in the Turkish lira.

Mustafa added, "The Turkish occupation state has turned Afrin and the occupied regions into hotbeds of terrorism and uses them for its interests, as it did before, by supporting the Janissary army, which was mercenaries for the Ottomans to achieve those goals.”

Gabriel Mustafa confirmed at the end of his speech, "The Turkish occupation state will not be satisfied with occupying northern Syria only, as its goal is to achieve its expansionist dreams and implement the Misak-ı Millî."
