Yesterday, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2672, which voted for extending the entry of humanitarian aid into Syria through "Bab Al-Hawa" crossing for six months.

All eyes were on Russia, which in the past abstained from voting, or used its veto power against draft resolutions to deliver aid across the border, and has long sought to replace the humanitarian aid that crosses the Turkish border to northwestern Idlib with convoys from the areas that Damascus government control.

Moscow has long argued that humanitarian aid "should go through Damascus, not across the border". Russia and China - two allies of Damascus - used their veto power in the Security Council, to reduce the number of delivery routes and limit them to making these crossings under government control. Thus, Tal Koçer border crossing with north and east Syria was excluded from the entry of humanitarian aid, however, as a result of political changes Russia contradicted its previous positions.

This comes amid the high pace of rapprochement between the Damascus government and the Turkish occupation, and negotiations between the two parties focus on opening the crossings between the two parties as a preliminary step.
