Egyptian experts and analysts: Turkey seeks to establish a buffer zone in Syria and Iraq

 Since last November 20, the Turkish occupation state has continued its attacks in northern and eastern Syria, and its army does not hesitate to destroy civilian homes and infrastructure and target it in a manner that contradicts all international laws and norms.

 Changing the demography of the region

 The Egyptian expert on Turkish affairs, Dr. Osama Al-Saeed, said, "Turkey's targeting of infrastructure in northern and eastern Syria is linked to the Turkish ambitions and project to control northern Syria and areas in Southern Kurdistan."

 He told our agency: "Turkey does not hide its goals by establishing a buffer zone against the Kurdish and Arab presence in northern Syria and Iraq, trying to establish a barrier belt between it and the Kurdish communities in southern Turkey."

 He pointed out that "Turkey tries by destroying and targeting the infrastructure in northern Syria, to increase the rates of displacement of refugees, changing the demographic nature of these areas."

 According to Al-Saeed, "There is a clear goal previously announced by the President of the Turkish occupation state, Erdogan, when he said he wanted to put an end to the Kurdish presence on Turkey's southern borders."

Al-Saeed expressed his belief that "it is difficult to implement Erdogan's plan, given the great attachment of the Kurdish people to their lands and regions."

 On the international silence towards the Turkish crimes in northern Syria, in exchange for interest in the Russian military action in Ukraine, Al-Saeed indicated that "the double standard between the crimes of Turkey and Russia represents a clear example of pragmatism and international double standards."

 He stressed that "the West was completely exposed in the Ukraine crisis, as we saw its way of dealing with Ukraine and its full support for it with arms and aid, opening European borders to Ukrainian refugees, and providing them with job opportunities in return, closing the crossings and shooting at the Syrian refugees!"  Al-Saeed believed that "this discrepancy revealed that the West does not deal with humanitarian crises from a moral perspective, but rather from the perspective of interest and pragmatism," considering that "the West is directly responsible for the situation in Syria, as it supported the arming of the Syrian revolution and contributed to turning it into a civil war."

 The stick and the carrot

 Al-Saeed pointed out that "Western countries ignore what is happening in Syria in return for giving priority to what is happening in Ukraine. They also ignore the crimes committed by Turkey in northern Syria," referring to that "Turkey is achieving what the West needs in the Middle East, and that the United States and the West do not want to lose  Turkey definitively and at the same time they do not want to free its hand in many files. Therefore, the Western dealings with Turkey depend to a large extent on the policy of sticks and carrots, as they use financial inducements and sometimes political and military pressures in order to correct and restrain Turkish behavior.

According to Saeed, "more attention must be paid to Turkish behavior, especially as it is destabilizing behavior in many parts, as it appears in Libya and the eastern Mediterranean," warning that "continued international neglect of Turkish behavior and ambitions in a number of Arab countries is a serious issue that will have future repercussions on  Region".

 For her part, legal expert and human rights activist Dina Al-Moqaddam said, "Turkey is a country based on occupations, invasions, and unreasonable interference in state affairs instead of paying attention to its internal files."

 She told our agency, "The Turkish targeting of infrastructure in northern Syria aims to create chaos and force the people of northern and eastern Syria to migrate, and create a human tragedy to facilitate the occupation of the region."

 According to Dina, "Turkey, which insults the Syrians and rejects their presence on its soil, is the one that interferes in the Syrian affairs, and seeks the continuity of the Syrian state of chaos."

 Regarding the international disregard for Turkey's crimes, she stressed that "the West has calculations, interests, and principles that are divided when needed, and that the aim of Russia's sanctions is not pro-Ukraine or its support, but rather its economic interests."

And she added: "The situation in Syria and the human suffering throughout the Middle East does not greatly concern the West, and they have no interests in stopping it, even if the matter was otherwise; to stop the whole world in front of Turkish crimes in Syria, as happened against Russia."

 For his part, the writer and political analyst, Ibrahim Shaaban, said, "Turkey's targeting of infrastructure attacks and missile strikes in northern and eastern Syria hides Erdogan's malicious Turkish goals, as it paves the way for a complete Turkish occupation of northern Syria under the umbrella of the "safe zone."

 He explained to our agency that "the Turkish barbarism over the past weeks in northern Turkey and before that in northern Iraq to target the Kurds has no justification, just as the terrorist attack in Istanbul, an independent investigation body in Turkey did not prove that those who carried it out were Kurdish elements, according to the Turkish allegations."  Pointing out that, "It is clear that Erdogan wants to take the ropes in northern Syria and secure a new area for his influence and hegemony."

 Shaaban denounced "the failure to raise the issue of the devastating Turkish strikes against the infrastructure in northern Syria so far, whether in the League of Arab States or in the Security Council, and the silence that amounts to complicity with it."

 Ibrahim stressed that "targeting the Syrian infrastructure by Turkish aircraft, as well as oil fields and power stations, is an integrated Turkish crime that does not deceive any of the Turkish allegations of targeting military sites."

 Shaaban was surprised "that this crime was not raised by international organizations and the secret behind the international silence on Erdogan!"  He wondered: Why is Erdogan not condemning what Erdogan is doing in the Syrian infrastructure of widespread destruction?  Despite the dire situation in Syria, just as Putin is being criticized for similar operations in Ukraine.

 Shaaban concluded his speech, warning against "the consequences of remaining silent on Erdogan's criminal actions, because it will then encourage him to carry out unexpected aggressive acts in several Arab countries."
