Today, the European Committee Against Torture (CPT) published a written statement regarding its visit to Turkey from September 20 to 29, during which the Committee indicated that it had also visited Imrali prison, and indicated that it had made a visit to Turkey for special reasons, and the visit lasted from 20 to 29 During the visit, it examined the procedures related to the detention, status and deportation of foreigners.

In the statement, the committee made it clear that, in order to get acquainted with the conditions of the detainees, it visited Imrali, within the framework of the social activities that are organized, and cut off contact with the outside.

In this context, the committee met with Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, head of the refugee administration, Shavas Unlu and officials within the Ministry of the Interior (the General Command of the Gendarmerie and the Coast Guard Command), in addition to Deputy Minister of Justice Akin Gurlik, the Director General of Prisons and officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and indicated that it had discussed with them the penalties imposed and the conditions of Imrali detention center.
