​​​​​​​Turkish attacks deprive about two thousand students of education

 The Public Schools Administration in Gire Spi / Tel Abyad has started its preparations for the 2022/2023 school year, with appointments of teachers and the distribution of school supplies in preparation for the start of the new school year.

 Regarding the preparations for the new school year, we had a meeting with the spokesperson for the Public Schools Administration of the occupied canton of Girê Spi, Jamaan Issa, who showed us that they have completed all their preparations for the current school year in 97 schools.

 He noted that they will work during the current school year to establish 5 schools, most of them in the western countryside of Ain Issa district and Girê Spî countryside (Salukah, Al-Ra’ouji, Al-Khafifiya), which during the past year were completely closed due to the lack of space, "because the schools there were in need of restoration as a result of the attacks."

 Concerning the schools located on the contact lines, Jamaan said: "We regret the continued threat by the Turkish occupier to the educational process and the deprivation of thousands of students of their right to education in the villages located on the lines of contact with the Turkish enemy for the fourth year in a row as a school (Al-Mastoor, Al-Jadida, Swaidiah, Al-Fatisa,  Khalidiya, Dibs, Al-Sawwan and other schools).

And he indicated that the number of students in these schools is approximately 2,000 students distributed among 23 schools, pointing out that their villages and schools are almost daily bombarded by the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries in full view of the world, which stood silent on the simplest right of the child in these areas, which is the education that they guarantee.  It has international laws and conventions.

 It is expected that the number of students in Girê Spi this year, according to the statistics of the Public Schools Administration, will reach 9,700 students, and 480 teachers.

 He added that the educational situation in Girê Spî canton, and since the occupation of the canton and large parts of its countryside in late 2019, has been permanently affected by the Turkish attacks, because most villages, even far from the contact lines, are being bombed, and there are some active schools whose work hours are suspended continuously, especially with the intensification of the bombing for fear for the safety of the students, among these villages are Al-Jarn, Bagdik, Al-Ahmadiya, and Al-Hisha.

 Currently, the administration does not have alternatives to solve the problem of about two thousand students.  In the event that the parents in the seeking areas decide to send their children to schools outside their villages, those schools are about 5 km away from their areas, which is a difficult choice in an area subject to daily attacks by the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries.

 It should be noted that the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries targeted, during the last academic year, the "Al-Ghazli and Al-Arida" schools directly, causing the educational process to stop after the parents' fear of sending their children there.
