In the light of Turkish escalation, Damascus govt tightens screws on al-Shahba canton

The Damascus government has prevented the entry of diesel fuel into the canton since the beginning of August, in addition to preventing the entry of medical supplies.

The siege of the Damascus government on al-Shahba led to the rationing of electricity hours from 7 hours to 4 hours per day, and the damage to the service work of the municipalities.

Moreover, the Damascus government practices a policy of war against the displaced people of Afrin by facilitating their exit from al-Shahba, with the aim of emptying the area after it was preventing their exit towards other areas.

The tightening of the government siege comes at a time when Ankara increased its statements regarding normalization with the Damascus government, especially after the tripartite meeting that brought together the heads of (Iran, Turkey and Russia) on the 19th of last July and the Sochi meeting between Putin and Erdogan on the 5th of August.

Worth to note UNICEF continues to reduce the amount of water allocated to the displaced people of Afrin in the semi-destroyed houses in the villages of al-Shahba canton, especially in the center of Tal Rifaat district and the surrounding villages.
