After the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, in 2011, the Turkish occupation state directly intervened in Syria by supporting and financing mercenary groups such as “Ahrar al-Sham, Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIS.” As a result of the failure of these mercenary groups to implement Turkish policies, it directly intervened on August 24, 2016.  It occupied Jarablus, then Azaz and Al-Bab, all the way to Afrin, Girê Spî and Serêkaniyê.

In this context, the Egyptian writer and journalist, Elhami El-Meligy, indicated in a statement to our agency that the intervention of the Turkish occupation state in Syria is due to several reasons.  Out of the desire to revive the Ottoman project aimed at controlling a number of Arab countries, as well as the Turkish administration's repeated desire to limit the active Kurdish presence in northeastern Syria.

Despite the blatant Turkish interference in the Syrian issue, the Arab countries and the Arab League did not show any serious stance on this, despite the fact that Syria is one of the founding countries of the Arab League.  The calculation of the Syrian territories is due to the fact that many Arab countries are preoccupied with their internal crises that escalated after the so-called “Arab Spring”, in addition to the fact that the ideological and political arm of the Ottoman project represented by the Muslim Brotherhood still has a presence in some Arab countries, which limits the adoption of those countries  a strict stance towards Turkish plans, and this is reflected in the position of the Arab League, which represents the will of the governments under its umbrella.

He stressed that the process of demographic change carried out by the Turkish occupation state in Syria, is a "dangerous matter, and if Turkey succeeds in achieving it, it will have serious consequences and be a prelude to a Turkish settlement occupation of those towns, similar to what happened in the occupied Syrian Brigade, Iskenderun, and stressed the need to mobilize all forces to confront this dangerous policy.

The Turkish settlements are cancerous foci in the body of Syria

After the Turkish occupation state occupied Afrin, it began building settlements in which the families of its mercenaries settled. On the 3rd of this May, Erdogan announced the preparation of a new project with the help of Qatari, Kuwaiti and Palestinian Brotherhood organizations and associations that includes the settlement of one million Syrian refugees within 13 occupied Syrian regions, headed by Afrin, Azaz, Jarabulus and Al-Bab.  Girê Spî and Serêkaniyê.

He noted that "Turkey's establishment of settlements in the areas it occupied in northern Syria represents an existential threat to Syria, and will represent cancerous foci in the Syrian body, and this requires the rapid and decisive action of Arab countries to stop tampering with Syria's demography, because its danger will extend to every region."

As for what is being circulated now by officials of the Turkish occupation state about the so-called “neo-Ottoman” project, the Egyptian writer and journalist believes that it is a danger lurking in the region and its peoples.  The declaration of former Turkish President Turgut Ozal that the twenty-first century is a Turkish century, and since that date, successive Turkish administrations have been striving to achieve this dream, which will be at the expense of tearing up Arab maps and rebuilding their identity on Turanian foundations, and they are also making unremitting efforts towards the so-called unification of the Turkish peoples.  From the Aegean Sea to the borders of China.

Elhami El-Meligy stressed the need to confront the neo-Ottoman project, saying: "This project is a danger to the region and requires unified efforts to confront it by all available means and methods."  He added, "What is required to deter Turkish expansionist policies is, first, to expose these plans and the extent of their danger to the peoples of the region, Arabs and Kurds, and to unify efforts to deter and abort these colonial policies."
