A member of the Executive Committee of the Democratic Union Party, Ahmed Sheikho, said that "the March 12 uprising was a very important step, because at that period and under the tyranny of the Baathist regime, raising the voice against it was in the sense of starting a major revolution."

He added, "The uprising was a breaking of the wall of fear and the demand for freedom and rights stolen from the people of the region in general and the Kurdish people in particular, so the whole Kurdish people participated in that uprising."

Ahmed Sheikho pointed out that "some parties sought to create strife in order to achieve their interests at the expense of the people of the region."  The Turkish state communicated with the Assad family in an attempt to put out the flames of the raging revolution in Rojava, and this became clear through the Adana Agreement signed by the Turkish occupation state with the Assad family.

Ahmed Sheikho asserted, "They could not put down the March 12 uprising, but its spark continued until it was embodied in the July 19 revolution. This revolution is a continuation of the March 12 uprising."

Sheikho pointed out that "the thought of the leader Ocalan and the Kurdistan Freedom Movement affected the people of the region, because his thought includes solidarity among all components and peoples," stressing that "that thought became a shield to repel the extremist and chauvinistic ideology that the enemy tried to plant among the components of the region at the time, and it had  the greatest impact in the start of the March 12 uprising, until the emergence of the democratic nation's project built on the foundations of equality, social justice and coexistence.

For his part, a member of the Executive Committee of the Democratic Union Party, Asaad Mannan, said that "the Qamishlo uprising is an important event in the history of the Kurdish people in Rojava and Syria, as it resulted from struggle, resistance and struggle in the face of injustice and tyranny that the Baath Party was practicing against the Kurdish people, to be the date of March 12  the point of explosion of the uprising.

Mannan continued, "There were other reasons for the outbreak of the uprising, related to the relations of the Turkish occupation state with the Damascus government, and here we go back in time to 1957, specifically when Turkey threatened Syria to interfere in its affairs, because Turkey considers Syria part of its territory, but it failed in Syria's union with Egypt,  It returned in 1998 and renewed its threats to invade Syria, then each of the two parties signed the Adana Agreement, whose provisions were completely in the interest of the Turkish side, to become a new starting point for the development of their relations later to destroy the Kurdish issue.

Mannan continued, "In 2003, after the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq, and the Kurds in northern Iraq obtaining federalism, the Syrian government did not tolerate these developments, so it took out a football match between the Fatwa and Jihad teams, and broke it against the Kurdish people and committed a massacre against them as a consequence."

Referring to the policy of the Damascus government since the sixties of the last century, he said, "Since 1963, the Syrian government has been seeking to drag the Syrian people into fighting among themselves.

Mannan continued, "The uprising spread to all regions in Syria, including Aleppo, Damascus and other regions, because it was for democracy and freedom."

At the end of his speech, Mannan affirmed, "If the Syrian government contained the uprising with a rational policy, and a democratic method, and gave the components of the Syrian people their rights in a fair manner, it would have saved the country from the destruction taking place now."

In turn, the 72-year-old citizen Khalil Ahmed Hussein from Shiye district in occupied Afrin, confirmed that "the People's Spring started from the Qamishlo uprising."

Khalil added, "I was arrested while I was out at a demonstration in Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood for more than four months. I was transferred to the Political Security Branch, and I stayed there for a week, then to the Criminal Branch and spent 17 days there, until I ended up in prison."

Khalil noted, "Thanks to the Qamishlo uprising, the Kurds were able to demand their rights and achieve gains and achievements," stressing the need for unity among all components in Syria to stand up to the policies that are hostile to the people and deprive their freedom.
