Jurist: Prosecuting ISIS mercenaries requires international recognition of AANES

 The peoples of north and east Syria spared no effort in calling on the international community to recognize the Autonomous Administration as a legitimate administration in north and east Syria, in addition to their demand to prosecute ISIS mercenaries’ detainees, following the liberation of the last mercenary stronghold in north and east Syria in early 2019, but these calls fell on deaf ears.

 After the attack of ISIS mercenaries cells on January 20 on Al-Sina’a prison in the Ghweran neighborhood in the city of Hasaka, which was thwarted after six days by the Syrian Democratic Forces, it became clear to the whole world that the danger of ISIS mercenaries still exists on the whole world, and as a result, they renewed  the Autonomous Administration demands regarding establishing an international court to hold ISIS mercenaries detainees accountable in its areas.

 In this regard, our agency met the co-chair of the Social Justice Bureau in Tabqa, Abdul Hamid Al-Nahar, who confirmed that "the recognition of the Autonomous Administration as a representative of the peoples of northern and eastern Syria is a moral and legal duty on the shoulders of the international community, after the people of this region chose to manage themselves away from  any power or authority.”

 "Therefore, the international community is obligated to recognize this administration based on the principle of the right to self-determination, which is stipulated by all international laws and norms," ​​he added.

 "There should be official recognition of the administration and the opening of representations for it in all countries of the world, such as Switzerland and Denmark. This will contribute effectively to solving the problem of prosecuting ISIS detainees in northern and eastern Syria," said Abdul Hamid Al-Nahar.

 He added, "International courts must be established to be supervised by all countries, and this trial should be legitimized by all parties, and this responsibility should be international and not fall on the shoulders of the Autonomous Administration only."

 An-Nahar continued his speech by saying, "Everyone knows that the threat of ISIS mercenaries was not only a threat to this region, but an international threat that crossed all borders, and the peoples of northern and eastern Syria were the first to confront these mercenaries on behalf of the whole world."

 He explained, "Therefore, it is the legitimate rights of these peoples to have a recognized administration in all international forums, and to have a key role in ending the trial of ISIS mercenaries' detainees and achieving safety and peace for the entire region."

 Abdul Hamid Al-Nahar believes that the lack of recognition of the Autonomous Administration will leave instability in the region in general, and will deepen the current crises more and more, and give the Turkish occupation state legitimacy for its attacks on north and east Syria and the capabilities of its peoples.

 An-Nahar stressed, "One of the indispensable basics of resolving the Syrian crisis is that there should also be internal recognition by the Damascus government, and that all parties sit at the dialogue table and talks with the aim of forming a suitable ground for developing solutions and getting rid of all outstanding problems in order to achieve a comprehensive political solution in the region."  ".

 At the end of his speech, An-Nahar pointed out that "the experience of the confederation and the decentralized system is a successful administrative and political system, as is the case in the United States of America, and if it is recognized in our regions, it will lead to the development of the region at all levels, and there will be fertile soil for planting the tree of peace and security in the region."  And that the failure to recognize this project that runs northern and eastern Syria is obstructing the aspirations of the people in these areas."
