​​​​​​​International Relations Researcher: ISIS tries to re-establish its influence

 Cells of ISIS mercenaries launched an attack on the evening of Thursday, January 20, on Ghweran prison designated for the detention of ISIS mercenaries, in an attempt to reach the western gate of the prison after explosions that preceded the attack, to facilitate the mercenaries' escape from prison.

 The al-Sina'a Prison in the Ghweran neighborhood is the second largest prison and detention center for ISIS mercenaries in the city of Hasaka, and it houses nearly 5,000 ISIS mercenaries "Syrians, Iraqis, and foreigners", and combing operations are still continuing by the Syrian Democratic Forces in the neighborhoods surrounding the prison.

 Regarding the attacks, Dr. Mustafa Salah, a researcher in international relations, spoke to our agency, who said at the beginning of his speech: "The terrorist organizations in general, will be active in the coming period, re-positioning and spreading again in former areas, or looking for new areas, and this is related to  the situation and conflicts in this region, and interactions between regional and international powers, which produced a number of weak security belts that created a new focus for the spread of ISIS in these areas. In addition, the rise of the Taliban to power serves as a catalyst for these groups, whether they are local  Or global to re-enter new interactions and put themselves in the map of spread again.

 'Turkey is doing a lot of special operations to attack prisons where extremist organizations are stationed'

 Regarding the Turkish support for ISIS, the researcher in international relations said, “I think that there are some countries that are based on their policy goals, using some extremist groups to manage these files, especially the Syrian file, and we can refer to Turkey, which carries out a lot of special operations to attack prisons in which organizations are stationed.  Extremist, especially ISIS, the process of imprisoning Girkin and targeting it by Turkish groups are the most prominent evidence of that."

 He explained: "This region is witnessing a state of jihadist fluidity in light of the international withdrawal from these areas and the continuation of disputes between countries, especially Russia, Turkey and Iran in these areas, which led to the existence of many areas that can be described as fragile in terms of security, and which created a new formula through which the  emergence of such organizations.

 Salah pointed to the goal of the recent attack by ISIS mercenaries, and said: "I think that ISIS is trying to target these prisons to remove its affiliated elements, which represent a great leadership force and a force trained in operations, away from recruiting new elements in the organization, and what enables it to extend its influence in  The region, and this is the first and last goal of the re-attack on these prisons.”

 The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria has called for the establishment of an international court in North and East Syria to try ISIS detainees, but the international community overlooks this issue, and the administration has not received a response so far.

 Dr. Mustafa Salah referred to the international community’s concerns about prosecuting mercenaries. “With regard to trying mercenaries internationally, resettling them in the incubating countries or sending them to their countries, I think that this matter encounters many difficulties, especially in light of Western fears of the return of these elements to this country.  and threatening its national security, in addition to the difficulty in determining the special nationalities of all these elements, which requires a lot of global measures and policies that can contribute to ending this problem.”

 Responsibilities of the international community

 Stressing the role of the international community in this regard, "the international community bears the responsibility to purify and sort these elements, whether with regard to bringing them into the camps to rehabilitate them before sending them to their countries, or with regard to putting pressure on countries to receive all their individuals and reintegrate them into society."

 At the end of his speech, Salah highlighted the repercussions of this attack, and said that the repercussions of this attack will greatly affect the idea of ​​ISIS re-spreading in the Syrian regions, or regarding their position in light of the great symbolism that ISIS found in these areas scattered between Syria and Iraq  Thus, this was his first position, which he seeks through these specific operations to impose his control over them, which he controlled before 2019.”
