The administration of Imrali Prison imposed disciplinary sanctions on Leader Ocalan in September 2018 under the pretext of turning the practice of walking with his other companions in Imrali Prison into meetings and dialogues, these penalties were imposed by Head of the Committee after investigations were carried out and he was prevented from meeting for three months on Sep 14, 2018.

The case of leader Ocalan draws the attention of Kurdish and international public opinion, in particular intellectuals, local politicians and jurists, calling for his release.

On the imposition of disciplinary sanctions against leader Ocalan, ANHA agency, Dr. Farnaz Attia Ahmed, Professor of Political Science, who, at the outset, referred to the systematic policy of the Turkish state against the leader: "If we want to talk about the abduction and then arrest of leader Ocalan through the conspiracy under the supervision of both Turkey and its allies, whether of the world's largest powers, or of States with regional weight, it is certain that, since Turkey arrested leader Ocalan 22 years ago, it does not deal with him in accordance with humanitarian laws and international charters concerning political detainees, which establish certain rights and require States that arrest them to abide by their responsibilities.

Following up: "Recently, the Turkish state has been emphasizing censorship and taking away from him the most basic rights, such as the right to walk around the prison square and to deny him from meeting his parents and lawyers to defend him. These are among the most basic rights that detainees must have. We recall that in the past two years, almost two years ago, when a fire broke out on Imrali Island near leader Ocalan's detention, the Turkish forces concealed information about this fire and Ocalan's state of health and for many years concealed this information from his people and society. "

Farnaz added: "Turkey has begun to impose new restrictions and frameworks of isolation on the leader in an attempt to end the thinking of Kurdish nationalism and the idea of fighting for freedom and defending Kurdish nationalism, and fears that Mr. Ocalan's ideas will leak out of detention."

Farnaz said that: "Turkey is trying to supress the Kurds in order to shut people’s mouths under pretext that the leader Abdullah Ocalan is considered a symbol of Kurdish resistance and struggle and a symbol of Kurdish nationalism, threaten Turkish national security and threaten the Turkish state as terrorists. So, the Turkish state is tracking them down, obliterating everything that is Kurdish, restricting and closing down on Mr. Abdullah Ocalan so that his ideas do not reach Kurds and those who support the Kurdish cause. However, despite his presence in prison, the leader has been able to raise the militant spirit of Kurds in order to reach peaceful co-existence and stand up for their cause, and thus Imarli Prison has become a place from which political ideas are set in place everywhere.

She went on to say that: "Mr. Ocalan's ideas have created many solutions to the problems with which the people of the Arab world and the states of the Middle East coexist, particularly in his thesis on peaceful coexistence, decentralization and a democratic nation, which does not distinguish between its citizens on the basis of nationalities and races, but acts along a line of rights and obligations.

Farnaz pointed out that the leader was a symbol of the Kurdish cause, so Turkey was trying to obliterate that symbol, hide it in any way and try to remove it from the memory of the Kurds, but it was difficult to do so; Because Ocalan's ideas are deeply rooted, inherited by generations and sympathized with by non-Kurd intellectuals and writers, they are accepted, as was the case with the Arab Initiative in Support of Ocalan, launched last year.

On the role of international organizations regarding Turkish violations against detainees and, in particular, against leader Ocalan, Farnaz said: "International organizations are complaining and demanding, but they are not showing any serious steps. We call upon international organizations to take up the cause of these detainees and to take realistic steps on the ground.

Farnaz concluded by saying, "Stressing the need" for effective action both in the States of the Middle East and globally, not only are violations of the rights of detainees or of the Öcalan case, but the case is Kurdish as a whole, and there must be a halt to the flagrant Turkish violations against detainees and freedoms in different States and against different nationalities.
