Transition from occupation to cultural colonialism

Since their occupation by the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries, Serêkaniyê/ Ras al-Ain and Girê Spî/ Tal Abyed have witnessed almost daily crimes, including abductions, theft of civilian property, seizure of the shops of unarmed civilians and rental to the families of mercenaries.

In addition, under the process of demographic change and the displacement of the indigenous population from the city, Turkish flags, as well as the issuance of Turkish "kimlik" cards for civilians have been changed.

The occupation causes the displacement of 300,000 civilians

The attacks and crimes of the Turkish occupation in Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî caused the displacement of more than 300,000 civilians from the region, the settlement of families of mercenaries, Iraqis, Afghans and Turkmens there, and the practice of demographic change after the displacement process.

According to the statistics of the Autonomous Administration, approximately 100,000 civilians were displaced from the canton of Girê Spî and its countryside, and 6,031 displaced people live inside the Girê Spî IDP camp, which was established on November 22nd, 2019 in the town of Tal Al-Saman, north of Raqqa city, and the rest of IDPs are distributed in cities Raqqa, Tabqa and Kobani.

In addition, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries evacuated and displaced the residents of 15 Yazidi villages in the Serêkaniyê area and its surroundings, seized 65 houses and all Yazidis properties, destroyed 80 houses in the villages of Daoudia and Khirbet Jamo, and built military barracks in the place of those houses, in addition to exhuming Yazidi graves and exhuming the remains from them.

The occupation also settled 400 Iraqi ISIS mercenaries in Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî, transferred 1,400 Syrian mercenaries and their families from Idlib to the region, and kidnapped 78 people on charges of working in the Autonomous Administration institutions.

Settlement of Iraqis

Within the framework of the demographic change policy pursued by the Turkish occupation state in the areas it occupies, ANHA agency has documented in the past months the settlement of the Turkish occupation of families of Iraqi nationality in the city of Serêkaniyê and families of ISIS mercenaries.

On June 29th, 2020, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights revealed that the so-called local council of Serêkaniyê city had issued ID cards for Iraqi refugees in the city.

Recruitment of children in the occupied territories is a new war crime

In addition to the crimes, the Turkish occupation began this year to recruit children to fight in Syria and abroad.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had prepared a previous report in which it clarified that the number of children under the age of 18 reached 150 who were sent to Libya, and on June 25th of this year, ANHA agency obtained a photo from inside the city of Serêkaniyê, of a child carrying weapons who appeared accompanied by some mercenaries It is called the "20th Division" of the Turkish occupation state, while private sources revealed that the occupation and its mercenaries are recruiting children in large numbers.

Expected policies that reflect Turkey's ideology and stakes

The Syrian dissident and head of the Modernity and Democracy Party for Syria Firas Qassas spoke about this, saying: "It was not at all expected that the Turkish occupation in Serêkaniyê/ Ras al-Ain and Girê Spî/ Tal Abyed would implement policies other than those issued by it and reflecting its government's ideological ceiling and its bets on hegemony and its indulgence in an irresistible racial arrogance."

He added, "The Turkish government, which does not recognize the Kurdish right to reflect its identity and patterns of experience on its land, reflects them on its life lines according to its will and in response to its aspirations, a government like that, certainly ready to practice war and aggression as an approach that does not stop at the borders of the occupation but goes as far as it can It reaches it, and up to the demographic change, this is exactly what was expected of it, and this is exactly what happened and continues to happen in the two occupied Syrian cities and in the rest of the Turkish occupation areas in Syria.”

Turkish scheme to formulate the Syrian country

On the goals of the Turkish occupation, Qassas said: "Turkey aims to practice cultural obliteration against the Kurdish component in Syria in the first place as a continuation of what it has practiced against the Kurds in Turkey since its establishment until this moment."

Qassas explained, "All this madness that has been established and extended in the institutions of the Turkish state, its media, its educational system, and its political class, all of this will necessarily result in what we see as an attack on the history of our occupied areas in Syria, on Serêkaniyê / Ras al-Ain and Girê Spî / Tal Abyad, and an attempt to change the identity of these cultural and ethnic places and the obliteration of their cultural heritage and the memory of humanity in them.

According to what was documented by the Human Rights Organization in Jazirah canton, 136 people lost their lives, including 14 women, and 293 people were injured, including 74 women, since the Turkish occupation of the two areas until the end of last August.

During the year 2020-2021 in Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî regions, about 121 people, including 6 women, were kidnapped. These documents are part of the crimes committed by the Turkish occupation against civilians in the occupied areas.

Shameful international position

Because of the great sacrifices made by the Syrian Democratic Forces during their war with ISIS mercenaries, these forces gained many friends in the world.

The attacks by the Turkish occupation were accompanied by popular reactions condemning these attacks. On the international position on Turkish crimes, Qassas said: "Unfortunately, it is truly shameful, weak and reckless to the extent that it often indicates what we might call collusion."

He added, "Not to mention that there are no practical tools available for non-governmental human rights organizations of international weight to apply them, and there is no one who has them except statements of condemnation, description and measurement of what is agreed upon by law and international custom as a crime. In light of this image, the Turkish occupation and its violations remain with it in this The stage is that we and our people have nothing but to stay with our rights until our last breath.”

American complicity

In his turn, the Syrian opponent and member of the Relations Committee in the Syrian Democratic Council, Ali Rahmon, confirmed: "The Turkish military operations by launching air raids on the Syrian and border towns came after the withdrawal of US forces from those areas, and this is considered American complicity in favor of the Turkish occupier."

Speaking to our agency, Rahmon added: "The Turkish invasion of the Ras al-Ain and Tal Abyad regions inflicted massive destruction and is still committed to this day, and is classified according to most international organizations as war crimes, systematic displacement, house war, kidnapping and continuous attempts at demographic change, in addition to attempts to establish settlements from outside the region, among them are Syrians, including non-Syrians, such as Iraqis and some people of ISIS, and Turkey is still practicing the most horrific types of violations against the Syrian people in those areas, despite the existence of agreements with the American side and the Russian side.

Turkish ambitions continue, and there is no way but resistance

The Turkish occupation state continues to launch attacks on the regions of north and east Syria and always threatens to occupy new Syrian regions, and about Turkey’s continuation of its threats, the Syrian opponent figure, Firas Qassas, said: “Turkish ambitions in our country do not end until we, as Syrians, lose our structural ability to allow any external party that covets hegemony, we have to impose its will on our lives."

He explained, "Turkish occupation will continue to seize every opportunity in Syria to express its political and cultural towards the components of the region especially the Kurds, it will not be deterred from doing so except by the occurrence of a Turkish self-revolution that overthrows the ceiling of the political values on which the Turkish state was founded, a revolution that preserves the values of Turkish secularism after its conquest on freedom in its broadest concepts.

He added, "Perhaps in the emergence of a new political atmosphere like this in Turkey, we can expect the Turkish aggression to recede and a review of its occupation policies in Syria, but this scenario also cannot be expected to happen before 2023, so until then there is no possibility that we expect Turkey to stop its will to expand. The occupation and the practice of cultural obliteration of the occupied territories through the means of demographic change that they use in them. We have nothing but resistance against it and by all possible and legitimate means.”
