Biden disappoints Erdogan, the latter looks forward to establishing closer relations with Russia

Erdogan seeks to enhance his relations with Russia to gain its support, after his disappointment in obtaining the “desired outcome” from his recent conversation with US President Joe Biden.

"Newsweek" magazine reported that Erdogan revealed that he was unable to find common ground with Biden, and told reporters, after the United Nations meeting, Friday, "In the discussions with Biden that I expected, there was no desired result."

Erdogan has revealed that he will now look to forge a closer relationship with Russia.

Erdogan is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Black Sea resort of Sochi on September 29, where they will focus on the situation in Syria.

Erdogan said he would seek to move relations with Moscow "much further" when he meets Putin. "We are striving to strengthen our bilateral relations with Russia," he added.

Relations between the United States and Turkey have been strained for several years. It deteriorated further two years ago, when Ankara purchased a Russian missile defense system.

Washington has banned the granting of any arms export permits to the Turkish government agency tasked with purchasing military equipment, after it first tested the S-400 system late last year.

The Biden administration has taken a harder line on Erdogan than that of his predecessor, Donald Trump.
