PYD spokeswoman: Chemical weapons are banned against everyone except Kurds

Sama Bakdash criticized the duplicity of the international community regarding the issue of targeting the Kurds with internationally prohibited weapons and chemical weapons, stressing at the same time the need to form a national unity to ward off the threat of occupation.

The Turkish occupation army constantly resorts to bombing legitimate defense areas using chemical weapons, in the absence of legal and human rights accountability by the international community for these crimes, which are classified as crimes against humanity.

In an interview with our agency, Sama Bakdash, a member of the Joint Presidency and a spokesperson for the Democratic Union Party (PYD), pointed out the danger of the Turkish occupation army's continuing attacks on the four parts of Kurdistan, whether in Rojava or Başûr, leading to the political extermination of the people of Bakur Kurdistan.

She said, "The Turkish state's repeated threats to the countries of the Middle East in general entered a period of time estimated in the year, with the aim of passing its strategic plans, and this thing is clear."

The survival of the Turkish state depends on the continuation of wars

On the recent escalation of the Turkish occupation's attacks on the Kurds, Sama Bakdash confirmed, "Yes, we have witnessed an increase in attacks, especially on Rojava, by targeting civilian and military vehicles without discrimination, and issuing threats from time to time. Also, starting from April and until now, attacks continue on Project Defense Zones".

She noted that the attack on the legitimate defense zones shows one thing: "The Turkish state is living in a state of internal weakness, and has become impotent at all political, diplomatic and economic levels, so its survival depends on the continuation of the war, stressing, "If the Turkish state dared to stop the war, it would collapse."

Chemical weapons were discovered only to exterminate the Kurds

Sama added, "When we talk about chemical weapons, it is a story with ancient roots. We can say that chemical weapons were only discovered to exterminate the Kurds. The Halabja massacre was the best example of massacres with chemical weapons, and perhaps the Halabja case took a place in the files of the international community, and was placed within that box to serve the policy of a number of countries at that time.

Sama Bakdash recalled previous times in which the Turkish state used internationally prohibited weapons: "We do not forget that the Turkish state supported the mercenaries to bombard Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood with poison gases in 2016, in addition to the bombing of Afrin during the attacks, and Serêkaniyê. Although this was documented through evidence. files, photos and videos, but the international community remained silent.”

She also pointed out that they had reached a complete conviction that "chemical weapons are prohibited from being used against everyone except the Kurds," which is a bitter truth, "We Kurds struggle and resist to convey an image to the world, that we have rights like everyone else."

NATO supports Turkey in its crimes and covers them legally

As for the international community's silence, Sama saw that the reason for this is due to Turkey's presence in NATO, which supports it in these committed crimes. It also considered that it helps it to bypass international law by encroaching on neighboring countries and transcending borders, "meaning that the blame is placed on NATO as well."

And she added, "If we want to talk about the violations of the Turkish state, there are hundreds of violations, from the arrest of Kurdish politicians in the Peoples' Democratic Party, and preventing them from exercising their political lives, who represent millions of the people in Parliament, in addition to the arrest of elected mayors and journalists who show the truth, meaning that there are thousands of evidence to put the Turkish occupying state as guilty of asking to be punished for its actions.

The duplicity of the international community in dealing with the chemical weapons file

As for the international community's duplicity, Sama said: "We saw that the use of chemical weapons in Khan Sheikhoun or Ghouta did not go unnoticed. Rather, there were interventions by the international community. Why? Because the issue is related to the Damascus government, while if the Turkish occupation state was the perpetrator, At that time, the world regimes will remain silent, because they have common interests with the Turkish state."

She also said: "This sensitive and historical stage, at a time when the Kurdish people are the first to lead the democracy project in Syria and the Middle East, we see that all tyrannical and authoritarian countries attack this project and want to thwart it."

Sama Bakdash explained that this project saw the light after adopting the principles of brotherhood of peoples in its formation, and giving women the leading role within this project. Sama, the union of components in the Autonomous Administration, considered a basic nucleus for creating a comprehensive national unity among all parties.

The member of the Joint Presidency and the official spokesperson for the Democratic Union Party (PYD), concluded her speech by stressing the need to intensify work to obtain a seat for the Kurds in the changing map of the region, and the necessity of preventing the threat of occupation and attacks and achieving stability, by forming national alliances that include all parties. It is a goal pursued by the Autonomous Administration and the majority of parties in northern and eastern Syria.

It is worth noting that the Kurdistan Community Organization sent a message to the international community regarding the use of chemical weapons by the Turkish state, in which it said: “We have to explain this silence as a result of cooperation with Turkey,” and “since many of Turkey’s crimes have been documented in detail, it is time to condemn them.” publicly and bring the relevant officials of the Turkish state to justice.
