​​​​​​​Struggle of freedom movement forms future

The Secretary-General of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Party (P.D.K.S) Jamal Sheikh Baqi explained that the resistance of August 15 is considered the beginning of the Kurdish people.

He stated that before 1984 the spark was expected to set off in Kurdistan, and said, "At that time I was close to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), and the resistance in Helwan and Seyurk showed great pressures in Amed prison, as there was no choice but to resist and struggle against the fascist Turkish state. After resistance in Amed prison, something had to be happened, as the great anger exploded, and in these circumstances, the PKK began on August 15 its first operation against the fascist Turkish state.

There was no other choice but to triumph on August 15

Jamal Sheikh Baqi continued his speech by saying, "The Kurdish people in the August 15^th Leap had no choice but to win. The bad policy that had been practiced against Kurds for hundreds of years should have been demolished, and this operation should not have been just an operation. Such a step should have been taken after the second conference of the PKK. At this stage, preparations were made for the movement in the four parts of Kurdistan with great sacrifices, especially in Lebanon, armed divisions used to be trained, and other Palestinian movements used to help the first armed divisions of the PKK. At that time, young men from Turkey and many areas of Northern Kurdistan flocked to join the party’s ranks, and despite their limited experience, they continued this struggle with great determination.

We did not expect the movement to grow to this degree

Jamal Sheikh Baqi recalled the rest of his memories about the August 15^th Leap, saying, "We printed five bags of leaflets and sent them to the areas for distribution. The statement that was given on that day included the announcement of armed propaganda and the revival of the lost hopes of the Kurdish people. Through armed operations, they wanted to announce the hopes of the Kurdish people to the world. The fascist Turkish state did not leave the Kurdish people with any other choice but to fight, and the Kurdish people resisted with the freedom movement. We said that August 15 will create something new, but we could not see how that would be reflected in a big leap. When we look at the situation now we really see results of the first leap of August 15, and if on that day we could analyze the freedom movement well, we would witness a different stage."

Sheikh Baqi explained that August 15^th moved the Kurdish people’s struggle to a new stage and said, "The resistance of the Kurdish people on August 15^th reached the people. This is the difference between August 15^th and the other uprisings. The people took their place in the decision-making stage and joined the armed struggle. The August 15^th Leap revived the Kurds' history, saved the Kurdish people from exile and made them resist again."

The PKK liberates the four parts of Kurdistan

Sheikh Baqi said that the freedom movement is fighting for the liberation of all of Kurdistan. He continued, "Many movements emerged in Kurdistan, but all of them were local movements. While the PKK's movement was so different. And the movement emerged into the public after August 15^th showed its responsibility in all of Kurdistan, and showed to the four parts that the freedom of Kurdistan is linked to each other."

Sheikh Baqi pointed out that the traditional organizations in Southern Kurdistan, which date back to seventy years ago, will not be able to establish a force to protect its people. He added, " Kurdistan Liberation Forces began their operations with the August 15^th Leap, and played a practical role in organizing society and protecting its people. This movement, which began on August 15^th, protected Southern Kurdistan and did not allow the Turkish state to occupy it."

If it wasn't for the freedom movement, Rojava would have been Idlib

Sheikh Baqi explained that without the freedom movement, the Rojava Revolution would not have reached this stage, and he continued, "Had it not been for the Kurdish Freedom Movement, we would not have seen this change and this success in Rojava. These lands would have become like Idlib and Azaz."

Jamal Sheikh Baqi added, "The people embraced this revolution and became part of the struggle. Without the PKK and the August 15^th Leap, we would have witnessed a similar massacre in 1959. Today and in this geography, the Kurdistan Freedom Movement is the most revolutionary movement that protects freedom and fights for its people."

August 15^th is the foundation of essential protection

The Secretary-General of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Party Jamal Sheikh Baqi continued, "The August 15^th Leap means at the same time the people's protection for themselves. Our people should establish their own defense against Special war, this is the job of the Kurdish people, and they should stand by the freedom movement. This movement, which started with weak hopes, has reached this stage after all these years. This people who reached this stage by protecting themselves in the four parts of Kurdistan will constitute the struggle of the future freedom movement, and victory is a foregone conclusion for the Kurdish people."
