Past week's Arab newspapers covered the escalation in Daraa, Syria, the situation in Afghanistan, and the crisis in Libya.

The escalation of government forces in Daraa weakens Russia's guarantees

The beginning of the escalating situation in the Syria's Daraa and in this regard, Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper said, "Despite the Russian assurances during the past few days of ending the military escalation in Daraa Governorate, the areas of Daraa Al-Balad, Al-Sad Road neighborhood and the camp are witnessing a mobilization of local fighters, after They repelled the attempt of the Fourth Division forces to advance at midnight on Saturday/Sunday, to the line separating the besieged areas in Daraa al-Balad and the areas of deployment of the Syrian regime forces, in conjunction with intense shelling with mortars and heavy artillery on the city.

Activist Othman al-Masalma from Daraa al-Balad said that the Central Negotiation Committee is preparing to hold a meeting on Sunday, with a new Russian delegation that arrived in Daraa governorate, affiliated with the Russian General Staff, explaining that the forces of the Fourth Division did not abide by any agreement and negotiations in Daraa al-Balad. He said that on Saturday evening, the house of a member of the Central Committee in the city of Daraa al-Balad, Abu Sharif al-Mahamid, was bombed with a number of artillery shells, which led to the destruction of the house where the meeting of the Russian side with the Central Committee was scheduled for Sunday.

In turn, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Damascus government forces and the Fourth Division continued shelling with heavy weapons on Daraa Al-Balad, Daraa camp, Al-Sad Road, Al-Ajami area, and the irrigation surroundings east of Muzayrib and the western outskirts of Tafas. This comes to pressure the people and dignitaries of Daraa to acquiesce in the demands of the government forces, in light of the daily meetings between the CC of the Houran clan committee and the security committee sponsored by the Russian delegation.

Pakistan and Turkey.. Increasing coordination between the coalition of beneficiaries of the Taliban victory

Regarding the Turkish move towards Afghanistan, Al-Arab newspaper said: “Coordination between Pakistan and Turkey has been active after the field developments in Afghanistan that pushed the Taliban movement to the fore, at a time when observers believe that these two countries will be the main beneficiaries, along with Qatar, of the Taliban taking over power.

On Tuesday, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar arrived in Pakistan on an official visit, during which he will meet with his counterpart Pervez Khatak, Minister of Military Production Zubaida Jalal, and Commander of the Ground Forces Qamar Javad Bajwa.

Turkish media said that Akar will discuss during the visit the latest developments in Afghanistan.

Observers believe that Akar's visit is important for Ankara and Islamabad together at a time when regional and international powers have not hidden their fears of the Taliban's insistence on military decisiveness and imposing themselves in power.

These observers pointed out that Turkey and Pakistan believe that the Taliban's anti-US and anti-European rhetoric will make them a direct party in any future negotiations with the Taliban; Because their presence is permanent on the borders of Afghanistan due to geography, and the movement will be forced to coordinate with them, if there is no coordination and cooperation behind a curtain.

Although Islamabad denies any special relationship with the Taliban, various reports speak of coordination between them, and that Pakistan will benefit from the rise of its historical ally to power.

Islamabad said Monday that the international community needed to examine why Afghan security forces had "collapsed" in the face of Taliban attacks across Afghanistan, rather than blaming Pakistan for the rapidly deteriorating situation there.

“Where is the capacity building, training and equipment?” asked Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi at a press conference, referring to the resources that other countries, especially the United States, have spent on strengthening the Afghan National Forces.

The strong relationship between the Taliban and Pakistan would help expand the alliance to include Turkey, which is betting on many elements to bring the Sunni movement, which has hard-line positions towards foreign power, to its side, including the historical heritage and the sectarian dimension, as well as the interests of the Taliban with the two allies of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatar and Pakistan.

Brotherhood of Libya maneuvers and alliances to avoid popular reckoning

As for Al-Bayan newspaper, it touched on the situation of the Muslim Brotherhood in Libya, especially after the popular uprising in Tunisia in recent weeks, and said, “The Libyan Brotherhood is facing more isolation, after the overthrow of the Tunisian Brotherhood, while informed sources from the Libyan capital said that meetings were held recently in a number of cities in western Libya, activists from the Justice and Construction Party and the fighting group participated, with the aim of coordinating positions, to counter any popular movement calling for the Brotherhood to be held accountable for their corruption in governance, similar to what happened in Tunisia.

The sources pointed out that the Libyan Brotherhood is standing today on a hot tin, and they consider that the isolation of the Tunisian Brotherhood Renaissance Movement represents a heavy loss for their local project and their regional alliances, especially since the Libyan Brotherhood was taking the Tunisian Brotherhood as a model in its movements and maneuvers, to penetrate into the joints of the state. And holding suspicious alliances at home and abroad.

Libyan circles indicate that the local Brotherhood organization relied on consulting the Ennahda movement, and its leader, Rashid Ghannouchi, in all the course of events in Tunisia, but the overthrow of the Brotherhood in the western neighbor represented an unexpected shock to the Libyan Brotherhood, and it would have profound effects on their future, given the great rapprochement between Tunisian and Libyan societies, and to influence each other.

In this context, a member of the Libyan House of Representatives, Saeed Al-Mugheeb, called for following the example of Egypt and Tunisia in supporting the army and getting rid of the Brotherhood. The corrupt Brotherhood, thanks to their support for the army, which restored things to normal, and brought them to the stage of stability, and from there to construction and development, as well as the brothers in Tunisia benefited from the Egyptian experience, so all the steps of President Qais Saeed were supported by the people and the military.”

In addition, Libyan sources spoke of the Brotherhood's alliance with ISIS terrorists in the western cities of the country, as a form of preparation to confront any popular movement, to isolate them from power.

Local observers believe that the Libyan Brotherhood is not satisfied with that, but rather is supported by foreign forces, mercenaries and outlaw armed militias. To their advantage, they continue to maneuver to sabotage the road map for a political solution and a military agreement.”
