In our country Kurdistan, after the First World War and the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923 and the establishment of the Turkish Republic, the Turkish state became tyrannical towards the Kurds as a major component, and obliterated all their rights.

But the Kurds revisited this approach.  On the basis of the principle "I am Kurdish, I also have rights", the first Kurdish uprising against the oppression and persecution of the Turkish state began in 1925 in northern Kurdistan led by Sheikh Saeed, but failed after several months.  But the efforts of the Kurdish people to obtain their legitimate rights did not end, but rather increased their persistence and struggle.

Therefore, the Kurds revolted 28 times to demand their rights. In the beginning, the Turkish state and the occupying countries of Kurdistan suppressed these uprisings in a brutal manner and killed thousands of Kurds.

The PKK changed the Kurd's status

This situation continued for forty years, until the founding of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Kurdistan (Bakûr) in the seventies.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party, led by the leader Abdullah Ocalan, had analyzed the situation of the Kurds in an academic way far from the traditional methods of the Kurdish uprisings.

The the first leaders of the Kurdish movement came to believe that the tyrannical and fascist Turkish state could not grant rights to the Kurds without war and resistance, but on the contrary, the more time passed, it increased the pace of its oppression and oppression of them.

The brutality of the fascist state reached its climax in the coup of September 12, 1980. The state took the physical and moral extermination of the Kurds as a goal and a strategic plan.

It is necessary to take action against extermination

To confront the annihilation plan, the Apo movement began to branch and organize itself in Kurdistan, and the first fighters of the PKK saw the need to take strict measures to confront this step.  And they realized that with their revolutionary stances they could face the Turkish state.

Leader Abdullah Ocalan says on this issue, "Resistance is necessary, and there is no other way. This resistance also includes weapons. It must be successful by all means, and we must start a new rebellion."

The resistance and leaders of the Apo movement in the prisons of Turkey, took the first step and carried out their promise to provide a decent life for the Kurds with their blood and seeing their bodies on fire.

A member of the Central Committee of the Kurdistan Workers Party and one of the leading cadres of the movement faced the persecution of the Turkish state on March 21, 1982 by setting his body on fire inside Amed prison, thus breaking the barrier of fear and opening the door of resistance to the leaders after him.

Resistance fighters from the Great Resistance of July 14, Mehmet Khairy Dormus, Kemal Pir, Akef Yilmaz and Ali Çiçek completed Mazloum Doğan's promise and the resistance on the day of his death shook the annihilation plans of the Turkish state.

The resistance of Mazloum Dogan and the 14th of July became a mainstay in order to start the armed struggle against the NATO's second largest army.  But after the September 12 coup, no one believed in the start of an armed fight against the Turkish army.  Especially for the Kurds, this dream has been suppressed.

After the resistance inside prisons and the increase in Turkish brutality against the Kurds, the Freedom Movement made the decision to return to the country and confront these genocide plans, and the PKK decided during the 1982 conference to launch an armed attack against the fascism of the Turkish state.

Members of the Freedom Movement, after being trained in Lebanon by the leader Abdullah Ocalan, headed to Bakûr in successive groups, preparing military propaganda, and one of these top cadres was Agid (Masoum Korkmaz).

Within this framework, in June 1984 in the Lulan region of Bradost a meeting was held and military units were established to start the fighting.

Commander Agid assumed the task of introducing the people to the reality of the PKK in Northern, Southern and Eastern Kurdistan, and he was preparing for armed combat at the same time, and he was trying to establish in Botan a popular army.

After completing the preparations, Commander Agid was assigned to take over the operations in the Deha district of Sirti.

Commander Agid said in his memoirs, a day before the operation, "On the evening of August 14, the Guerilla units met, and their enthusiasm was at its highest. We read the measurements when the attack on Deha was announced, and we read the promise of fulfillment after that."

I remember who attended that meeting; Ardal, Badran, Sheyar Musa Hajji, Farman, Salim, Ali, Rasul, Baji and Karim, and their total number was 30 members from Guerilla.

The start of the armed struggle

On the fifteenth of August, under the leadership of Agif, in Deha district, the first shot was fired against the fascist Turkish army, and thus the armed struggle began.

Fighting began in every district, and the freedom fighters (Guerrillas) took control of the entire district, and captured a group of gendarmerie forces from their headquarters.

With the control of the district, the Kurdistan Liberation Forces (HRK) were announced, Agid announced their forces goals.

After that, the Guerilla forces present in the mosques recited the statement of the Kurdistan Liberation Forces.  Thus, revolutionary pamphlets were also distributed in the cafes of Deha district.

After the successfully completing the operations, the Guerilla units gathered somewhere.

Guerrillas did not lose a single martyr, but a member of the Turkish army was killed and six others were wounded.

On the same day, another operation took place in Shamezinan successfully. The area fell into the hands of the guerrillas.

With the announcement of the armed struggle, the Kurdish people considered August 15 a holiday of the new resurrection, and the world and the whole of Kurdistan were flagged by the Kurdistan Liberation Forces.

If a person wants to define the August 15 leap in the context of two processes, he will undoubtedly fall prey to historical mistakes.  The August 15 leap is considered a new birth for the Kurds, not only from a military point of view. The August 15 jump broke the chain of slavery and surrender that was imposed on the Kurdish people.  At the same time, August 15 is considered a strategic change from an intellectual, political and cultural point of view.

With the leap of August 15, the dreams of 28 Kurdish uprisings were fulfilled. The PKK is not considered a revolution or a party confined to a section of Kurdistan. Rather, it is known as an organizational, social and military movement that leads the struggle in the four parts of Kurdistan.

After the August 15، the Kurdish youth went to the mountains of freedom, and learned from the leader Agid how to armed struggle and leadership, and thus the people and guerrillas were united everywhere, and the occupying state could not attack the Kurdish people as before, as he knew that the people had become protective forces, and that these troops are able to protect him everywhere.

Ocalan: What revived Kurdistan again and established a new life was our fight

Leader Abdullah Ocalan refers in many of his interviews and speeches to the August 15, and explains it as follows: "The August 15 deepened, widened, and rose, so what revived Kurdistan again, and established a new life, was our fight."

As Mazloum Dogan promised, "We must make our voice heard to the world."

He responded to Khairi Dormush's promise, which states, "You will not be able to deny our existence," and Kemal Pir's statement, "I see the salvation of the Turkish people in the salvation of the Kurdish people." The time of your endless persecution is over, and the time for a free life is over."

If a person discusses the history of the Kurds, he will inevitably say the Kurds before and after the August 15. Therefore, this struggle is not only military, but on the contrary, it is for a new life for the Kurds.

In other words, the August 15 Leap is the Kurdish renaissance in the new era, this renaissance, and on the 37th anniversary of the August 15 Leap, today, led by the North and East Syrian Revolution, has become a new model for life in the Middle East.

Commander Aid who was martyred in 1986 in Kabar, thousands of his ilk appeared in Kurdistan. Today, e is a symbol of victory.
