The last massacre of August 2014 was not an isolated chain rather it was a continuation to a series of 72 others throughout history mostly carried out at the hands of Ottomans, the last one was carried out at the hands of ISIS that were supported by Erdogan.

Though ISIS caliphate came to an end geographically but pains it caused are still bleeding as aiders and abettors have not yet faced justice.

According to history, Shengal was attacked by the Roman Empire when it was under the Arameans, its people stood up to the Romans but they could not stop Roman armies. In the Muslim Era, Muslims entered Shengal under the command of Abu Musa al-Asheri.

Almost a thousand years ago led by Ertugrul Beg Seljuk's invaded Iraq and Southern Kurdistan. The way to Baghdad was passing through Shengal in which four thousands were killed in defence of their city after a nearly month blockade. According to some historians, Seljuks were obliged to ask for reinforcements due to the intrepid resistance performed in the city. The most pains were inflicted upon Yazidis in the Ottoman Era. The main aim of the Ottomans was merely exterminating Yazidis that represent the deeply rooted Kurdish culture and heritage, every time animosity was present. Massacres were not confined only to Shengal rather they were carried out in the whole Kurdistan. In the hot August of 2014 the bloody scenario was re-enacted again in Shengal to be the first in the century against the people of Shengal.

Pushed by regional support namely Turkish, ISIS mercenary groups undertook a savage and barbaric onslaught against Yazidis in Shengal Province in Southern Kurdistan.

According to survivors, at 02:30, after midnight, on August 3, 2014, ISIS mercenaries launched their barbaric aggression on Yazidis. In spite of the intrepid resistance put up by the Yazidi youths in the village of Sipa Sheikh Khider and Gir Zerk ISIS mercenaries penetrated into Shengal after Peshmergha forces of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, abandoned their positions.

Survivors used to be driven to the top of the Shengal Mountain that never fell to any invading power.

Hundreds of Yazidis remained encircled without any water of food under the crunching summer sun until the Guerrilla forces intervened coming from Kurdistan Mountains sacrificing many martyrs in defencing survivors while YPG and YPJ opened a new humanitarian way from Shengal into Rojava saving lives of thousands of people.

Thousands were murdered, thousands of women were abducted and tens of religious shrines and sanctuaries were demolished completely at the hands of the ISIS mercenaries under the clock of infidelity and apostasy the same the  was used by Ottomans in dire distortion of the Yazidi creed and history premeditatedly.

ISIS was not the sole force that invaded Yazidis. In Syria Yazidis were open to similar policies at the hands of the mercenary groups of the Syrian National Army after both Afrin and Sere Kaniye were occupied in 2018 and 2019 respectively where shrines were demolished and Yazidi houses were taken possession of under directives of Erdogan that never spared any effort to declare his intention of occupying more Syrian lands under protecting minorities.

As families were secured in Rojava, remaining Yazidi youths formed the Shengal Resistance Units supported by both YPG and YPJ just after one day the onslaught. Since  then both the Shengal Resistance Units and the Ezidxan Asayish undertook protection of the Yazidi community in Shengal to abort further massacres then Yazidi females formed their own units and took part in the Raqqa Liberation Operation to give assistance in freeing those abducted Yazidi girls.  According to jurists the Yazidi male force had the right to defend Shengal, while the Autonomous Administration that was formed on January 14, 2015 was tasked with administration and organizing people.

On April 1, 2018, the HPG forces announced their withdrawal from Shengal after mission was done successfully, and the very founding stone for the protection of the region was laid leaving defence tasks to the Shengal Resistance Units.

But since 2017 up to date, Turkey has never sustained from targeting Shengal. At least 20 air raids were carried out by Turkey against Shengal Province since ISIS was removed that matter that corroborates ISIS was supported by Turkey directly. Turkey, to break the will of te people used to target the elite and leaders of the both community and resistance such as Mam Zeki Shengal member of the Yazidi Community Coordination and also General Commander of the Shengal Resistance Units Zerdesht Shengali.

After seven years and more precisely in June 2020 Yazidis began to return home that were living in camps in Southern Kurdistan but ! that upsets Turkey and do not run with extension and occupation schemes in Kurdistan and of annihilating the Kurds culturally that have lost a lot of it all owing to the frimans one after another.

The October 9, 2020, Shenag Agreement singned between the Iraqi Fe3dralGovernment and the Kurdistan Democratic Party is a part to that policy and that firmans are in effect.

The agreement that cited administrative and security issues was encountered with much rejection by people in Shengal that aborted all articles to be out into practice that pushed Erdogan to threaten to interfere directly after failure of his policies to be out into action by both PYD and the Iraqi government saying in a Friday prayers on January 22, 2021 that they could come suddenly one night in an allusion to the possibility of a Turkish onslaught on Shengal.

Aiders and abettors should be held accountable

Both the Netherlands and Belgium recognised among others the Yazidi mass killings in 2014 as a genocide that paves the way for further steps to assist the Yazidis.

Member of the Executive Committee of the Kurdistan Workers' Party Murad Karaiylan in a statement released on July 20, 2021 said the step by both Netherlands and Belgium is a positive step calling for further action to bring into justice countries that participated in the massacre.

Days ago, and precisely on July 23, the Shengal Civil Administration held it fourth conference that elected a new chairman as Shi'ites formally joined the hierarchy of the administration.

The conference confirmed that the administration in Shengal is a legitimate right of Yazidis guaranteed by the Iraqi constitution and that partitioning Iraq is not sought at all by the administration.

Looking into what happened after the firman home of the Yazidi creed and reservoir of preserving the Kurdish culture tat is deeply rooted, the 2014 massacre was a turning point in history that gave impetus to the society to organize itself and strengthen position after the dispute that was caused by policies adopted by the PDK and the Iraqi federal government that kept the region in a state of unrest cost people political,  civil and even religious rights.
