Sinem Muhammed, Firas Qassas: Tal Kocher closure to subdue AANES to Russia and Turkey

SDC representative in Washington confirmed that the aid has become a political bargaining card to put pressure on the Autonomous Administration, which is facing a systematic attack run from dark rooms. One of the Syrian opponents considered that what happened "exposed the credibility of the international community to scratch."

A few days ago, the UN Security Council extended the mechanism of aid entry into Syria through the Bab al-Hawa crossing, which is controlled by the mercenaries of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra and classified on the list of international terrorism), while keeping the Tal Kocher / Yarubiyah crossing closed to aid, after the surrender of the UN, US and Western powers to Russian pressure.

This decision is negatively reflected on the 5 million Syrians living in the regions of north and east Syria, which contain hundreds of thousands of displaced people in the camps, not to mention hundreds of thousands of ISIS mercenaries and their families that the Autonomous Administration takes care of.

Grave issue

The Syrian opponent Firas Qassas pointed out that "the Security Council's resolution came as a result of US-Russian consensus in the first place, and it is a decision concerned with humanitarian aid that is carried out according to organizations affiliated with the United Nations."

Qassas noted "the positive side of the resolution is that it provides humanitarian aid to civilians in areas where Bab al-Hawa crossing constitutes a lung that allows them to live, while the negative in the matter is that the Bab al-Hawa crossing is under the control of extremist factions that are agents of Turkey, which allows them to gain more control over the lives of people in these areas and it consolidates its domination over people there.”

Political bazaar

In its basic form, the draft resolution stipulated two things: extending for one year the mechanism for bringing cross-border aid into Syria from Bab al-Hawa (northwest) border crossing with Turkey, and expanding the scope of this mechanism to include the Tal Kocher/Al Yarubiyah border crossing with Iraq, as it was in the past.

After the acquiescence, Ireland and Norway changed the draft resolution, abandoning the demand to reopen the Tal Kocher crossing, and only keeping the Bab al-Hawa crossing from which aid enters the areas under the control of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham

Qassas said: "The United Nations' abandonment of the opening of the Tel Kocher crossing did not happen as a result of a Western will, but rather because of Russian pressure in the first place, as the West had to either keep all the ports closed or keep what could be left available for the entry of humanitarian aid."

The Syrian opponent criticized what he described as the "political bazaar with the humanitarian file" and considered that it refers to "the pragmatic, selective dimensions and double standards in which the Western position deals with the issue of crossings and its subordination to political interests at the expense of humanitarian and principled considerations."

Credibility has been scratched

Qassas pointed out that “the credibility of the international community has been scratched due to the lack of firmness in working on the Syrian humanitarian file specifically and the political file in general.” He said: “I do not know how to lament this credibility in light of this miserable impact the international approach in the Syrian file left.

Deliberate American retreat

On the American position on this, Qassas explained that "it has to do with what is available to be obtained within the framework of possible agreements with the Russian Federation and in light of the deliberate American retreat from involvement in the Syrian issue."

Russia is happy with absence of political, humanitarian support for AANES

Moscow has insisted since the beginning of the year on ending the UN mandate, and Moscow considers that the passage of international aid through Damascus can compensate for cross-border aid, which Western countries and the United Nations have repeatedly rejected without achieving anything.

A few days before the vote, and in a statement to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused the mercenaries of "Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham" in northwestern Syria of obstructing the passage of humanitarian aid through the border crossings, "with the complicity of Ankara."

Russia insisted that aid not be brought in through Tel Kocher crossing. The Russian delegate to the UN Security Council, Vasily Nebenzya, said that he had told his colleagues in the Council from the beginning that trying to reopen the crossings that were closed on the Syrian border is pointless.

He added, "The Russian Federation does not show any respect for the administration community's desire to build a participatory administrative formula that does not affect the unity or sovereignty of the state in Syria. It seeks to besiege and restrict it as much as possible and is pleased with the absence of political and humanitarian support for the administration's areas by the West and is trying to achieve gains that are in the interest of the regime as a result.

Qassas: Russian image takes a bad place in the consciousness of the Syrians

The Syrian opponent sent a message to Russia in which he said: "The Russian image has begun to take a bad place in the consciousness of the Syrians, and its image has begun to deteriorate increasingly as a result of its position on the north and east of Syria and the situation in all of Syria."

Qassas concluded his speech to Russia: "We ask Russia to respect the will of the components of north and east Syria and to desist from besieging its areas and using humanitarian aid files as a means of political pressure and coercion against it."

SDC representative in Washington: a systematic attack conducted in dark rooms against AANES

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced its rejection of the Security Council's decision to deliver humanitarian aid to Syria through Bab al-Hawa crossing. The Autonomous Administration said that the decision "does not take into account the humanitarian situation in Syria, and deepens the human tragedy with the continued siege imposed on the region from all sides."

The representative of the Syrian Democratic Council in Washington, Sinem Muhammad, considered that "the crossings and the aid have become a political bargaining chip to pressure to reach understandings about the Syrian crisis; adding that neglecting the Yarubiyah crossing will deprive the Syrians in north and east Syria of UN aid to reach the area."

The representative of SDC said: "Hundreds of thousands of displaced people in the region are in camps as a result of the Turkish occupation of Serêkaniyê / Ras al-Ain and Girê Spî / Tal Abyad, in addition to the displaced from Afrin and hundreds of thousands of other Syrian cities, and they are in dire need of aid in light of the economic crisis that they are going through in Syria in general and northeastern Syria in particular, there is also Al-Hol camp, which contains 60,000 ISIS families, including women and children, and needs assistance, especially since the Autonomous Administration bears the burden of these camps, although there are some organizations that provide aid but they cannot resolve this crisis."

Sinem Muhammad concluded her speech by noting that keeping Tel Kocher/Al Yaroubiya crossing closed to UN aid is "a kind of pressure from the Russian-Turkish side on the Autonomous Administration, especially in this period where there is a systematic media attack on the Autonomous Administration and SDF forces, which are run from dark rooms."
