Turkish occupation sentences 3 Syriac fighters captured in Syria to life imprisonment

With the beginning of the Turkish occupation’s attacks on the regions of North and East Syria after its occupation of the city of Serêkaniyê, the Turkish occupation state captured three fighters from the Syriac Military Council who were defending their region and people.

After their capture, the Turkish occupation state took them into Turkish territory, accompanied by dozens of people from the region, to try them through its fascist courts, which contradicts the laws of the international community.

In this regard, the Syriac Military Council issued a statement to public opinion, in which it called on the international community and human rights and humanitarian organizations to intervene immediately, to release its fighters.

The text of the statement:

"The Turkish government continues its violations of human rights in the Syrian territories it occupies, through many actions carried out by the extremist groups that it supports, or through the actions it undertakes directly, especially in terms of allowing theft and looting of the properties of the displaced citizens in the occupied territories as well as a flagrant demographic change.

In the same context, Turkey is violating the international law represented in the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War, as the Turkish government transferred the prisoners of war from the Syriac Military Council and the Syrian Democratic Forces outside the territory of their country, and transferred them to Turkish territory and tried them there in clear and significant violation of the Geneva Convention.

During the past year, the Turkish judicial system tried three fighters of the Syriac Military Council in the Turkish courts in the Urfa region. A decision was taken against them to be imprisoned for about seven and a half years, and about three months ago, they were retried and sentenced to life imprisonment.

We in the leadership of the Syriac Military Council denounce these hostile and inhumane acts in violation of international laws carried out by the Turkish government towards the peoples of North and East Syria, especially in the areas under its occupation, since the start of its military attacks within Syrian territory in 2016 until today.

Therefore, we are applying from all major countries, especially those concerned with the Syrian file, and from all human rights organizations to immediately intervene with the Turkish government and urge it to release our fighters immediately."
