Because of Turkey's reducing Euphrates water... severe water shortage in Girê Spi IDPs' camp
The Girê Spi displaced camp suffers from an acute crisis in drinking water, after it was cut off from the source, while the camp administration is unable to address the problem due to the lack of available choices to it.
The Turkish occupation state continues to block the flow of Euphrates water to the Syrian lands for more than 3 and a half months, which has negatively affected the regions of north and east Syria that draw their water from the river.
With the continued cutting off water, the operation of the Tell al-Saman lift pump in the northern countryside of the city of Raqqa, which supplies water to the Girê Spi displaced camp, was affected after reducing its operating hours.
The pumping is currently limited to providing drinking water only, as it works 4 hours after 48 hours, which is not sufficient to secure drinking water for the camp, with the summer is close and the frequent consumption of it, as our agency correspondents noticed that the tanks in the camp were completely empty of water.
The IDP camp draws its water from the hill pumping station, through a network of pipes distributed over all sectors of the camp.
In an interview with our agency with the Sherine Hassou, an ID, she said, "water has been cut off for two days, and we have not been informed before, so we can store at least what is sufficient for us to drink."
Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman Al-Hamad, AN IDP said that all the displaced suffer from a suffocating crisis with drinking water, adding that if this situation continues, they cannot stay inside the camp.
He added, "Turkey, after it deported us from our cities and villages after its occupation, fights us by cutting off our water, and we live in camps."
Both Sherine and Abdel-Rahman called on the concerned authorities to secure drinking water for them, especially that they are in the summer and are in dire need of it.
The administration is unable to solve this problem due to the limited resources available to it, by providing mobile tanks to alleviate this problem.
The Girê Spi displaced camp is inhabited by 3530 IDPs from Girê Spi district and its countryside, who were abandoned by the Turkish occupation after occupying their cities and villages following its aggression that it launched on the 9th of October of 2019.
