National Defense still control 74 villages, threaths alive

Despite the expulsion of the National Defense mercenaries by the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria from Tayy neighborhood located in the southern side of Qamishlo city, this does not mean that their threat to the city has ended nor that they have been eradicated, as happened previously in Ghwyran neighborhood, south of Hasakah, in 2016.

The National Defense is one of the military arms that the Damascus government formed in 2004 in the cities of Qamishlo and Hasakah, through which it sought to cover up the crimes of its security institutions and the crimes it committed in suppressing Qamishlo uprising at the time.

These mercenaries returned to the fore again with the outbreak of the Syrian crisis in 2011 to suppress the demonstrators and preserve the government's authority and areas of control.

'Reducing areas of control'

In north and east Syria, the Internal Security Forces reduced the mercenaries' control areas in the city of Hasakah in 2016, by expelling them from the Ghwyran neighborhood, south of the city, to limit their presence in some streets inside the security square in the city center, as well as zones for the Damascus government and its security institutions.

The mercenaries of the National Defense have repeatedly targeted the security and stability of the city, the most recent of which was the attack launched on the Internal Security Forces in January of this year, which resulted in the outbreak of clashes between the two parties.

'Expulsion from Tayy neighborhood'

In parallel, the mercenaries' endeavors continued to strike the stability in Qamishlo city, which prompted the Internal Security Forces to expel them from Tayy neighborhood on the 26^th of last April.

This came 7 days after clashes between the Internal Security Forces and the mercenaries of the National Defense, after the mercenaries' attack on a Security Forces' checkpoint in Al-Wehda roundabout in Qamishlo city, which led to the death of a member of the Internal Security Forces on the 20^th of the same month.

The clashes resulted in the expulsion of the National Defense mercenaries by the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria, from the neighborhood towards the southern villages of Tayy neighborhood and the south of Qamishlo.

These villages are located in the area extending from al-Hizam al-Janobi (Southern Belt) to the areas of contact between them and the Internal Security Forces in the north and northeast of Tel Brak district, via the M4 road.

'Concentration in 74 villages'

Today, the mercenaries are distributed in that region among 74 villages that are still under their control, in addition to several points of the Damascus government army and other militias affiliated with the government's security institutions, according to what ANHA agency has monitored.

The mercenaries are spread in zones and villages located on the southern side of Qamishlo city, which are: "Villat Qamishlo Airport, Damkheya Kabira, Zunoud, Hamo, Qazlaja, al-Watwatiyah, Safia, Tel Abu Dhuail, al-Kita, Dalawiyah, Khazneh Jadidah, Tel Shulek, Habara, Al-Haizeh, Halabiyeh , Telul Mohammed, Tel Shelberat, Ammar, Tueim hamlet, Khirbet Hassan, Baw'ah, Khirbet Taqiyat, Tel Shams, Mushairfeh, Tel Sateh, al-Teben, Khirbet Jadou', Om al-Jafer, Khirbet Hamo, Hammar al-Tawil, Muluk, Abu Jalal, Hajji Badr, Tel Odeh, Tel Tartab, Haji Bdr, Dhabna, Tarteb, Fawj (Regiment) 154."

As for the villages in the southeastern side of the city, they are: "Hamira, Khirbet Amo, al-Rashwaniyah, Jokha, Juneidiyah, Heyahi, al-Bajariyah, Khirbet Khazneh, Ibn Qalaw, al-Jadida, al-Buweir, Amara, Hamar al-Tawil, Tel Sateh al-Sharqi, Salihiyat Arab, Haddadia, Mushairfeh, Rahiya, Farfara, Tel Maha, Khirbet al-Samraa, Tel Omair, Tel Ghazal Tawarej, Khazneh, Helweh, Buwirah al-Ahmed, Khirbat Askar, Sweidiyeh Kabira, al-Bulathiya, Tel Berish, Hamo, Qasir, Mas'ada, al-Rekabiyah."

The villages of Zunoud, Hamo and Dhabana south of Tayy neighborhood, Damkheya al-Kabirah south of Qamishlo Airport, and Tartab and Regiment 154 are considered major concentration points for the mercenaries of the National Defense.

'Pushing the risk, not ending it'

The map of control of the National defense mercenaries shows that their expulsion from the Tayy neighborhood represents eliminating the threat, not ending it.
