therefore the Party called for the international coalition, the United Nations and relevant international institutions such as the UN Security Council to put pressure on Turkey to refrain from using water as a weapon of war, issue a binding resolution against Turkey and hold it accountable for its crimes.

This came through a statement issued by the Kurdistan Green Party, commenting on the Turkish state’s move more than two months ago to cut off the Euphrates water on Syria, foretelling a humanitarian and environmental disaster, and said in the statement:

"Life on this earth was established on the basis of water, and all peoples were settled around water sources, so we see that the areas of springs and the passage of rivers are the first settlements of Man, not only Man, but all living things, and they are also areas for plant and trees growth, and plantations, which are sacred rivers because they are the basis for the continuity of life.

In order to protect life and environment, international laws have been put in place, prohibiting the use of water as pressure or as a weapon in any conflicts, and criminalizing those who do so, but the Turkish state, which has consistently violated international law, is using the international rivers, the Euphrates, Dijlah and others, which spring from the territories of Kurdistan occupied by Turkey, as a weapon of war against the Syrian areas in general and north-east Syria in particular, as well as cutting off drinking water in the occupied Alouk station on the residents of Al-Hasakah city and its countryside, in incidents that are considered war crimes.

Cutting off the Euphrates River water by Turkey constitutes a real catastrophe that seriously harms people, animals, the environment and agriculture, as well as other organisms that live on this water source, and it leads to thirst, economic instability and poverty in the region whose military forces; the Syrian Democratic Forces fought against ISIS and defeated it. By this, Turkey advocates the terrorist organization ISIS against the people of the region, in full view of the world and its relevant institutions, without these institutions carrying out their duties.

We, in the Kurdistan Green Party, condemn the Turkish measures; cutting off the water of rivers, as well as drinking water on the civilian population and all the region’s creatures, environment and plantations. For the areas of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria not to become thirsty and its lands become desertified, and in order not to become a burden on the international community, we call on the international coalition, the United Nations and relevant international institutions such as the UN Security Council to pressure Turkey to refrain from using water as a weapon of war, to issue a binding resolution against Turkey and to hold it accountable for its crimes."
