Almost a month has passed since the Damascus government closed its crossings that link it with the areas of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, in light of a catastrophic situation in its areas, especially after the deterioration of the Syrian currency against the US dollar.

'Closure of crossings and efforts to export the crisis'

In the recent period, the people of the Damascus government have suffered from a living crisis as a result of high prices and low wages for workers in that area, and the deterioration of the Syrian currency in recent days, which threatens of a real famine in those areas if the situation continues as such.

As for the Administration's areas, the situation is completely different as a result of the residents' reliance on the policy of self-sufficiency, and also because their employees are paid much more than the employees in the areas of the Damascus government.

One dollar used to be equivalent to 50 Syrian pounds before the 2011 crisis, but after 10 years after the Syrian crisis, one US dollar became equivalent to 3,500 Syrian pounds, and for a period of time its exchange rate reached the limits of 5,000 Syrian pounds, and this is what affected the residents in the areas of the Damascus government due to the deterioration of the currency and high prices.

Many observers saw the closure of the crossings as an export of the living crisis experienced by the people in government areas to the Administration's areas.

Gilo Issa believes that "the closure of the crossings came after Turkish pressure on Russia and the Syrian regime that the Autonomous Administration project must fail, and this thing does not fall on its shoulders only, so what is required of the Syrian regime is to create an economic crisis in the areas of the Administration."

He added, "The Syrian regime is trying to create a crisis in our areas because the situation in its areas is not pleased, as a result of the deterioration of the Syrian currency. Therefore, the closure of the crossings came after an agreement among the group leading the "Astana path," whose goal is to achieve victory for the Syrian regime, and use the Syrian opposition as a tool to achieve its gains. This is a political game at the regional level, and the goal of each country is to achieve a place for itself in the Syrian arena."

There are three main crossings linking the Autonomous Administration and the Damascus government, which are "Al-Taihah" to the west of Manbij city, "Al-Akershi" crossing in the eastern countryside of Raqqa, and Al-Tabqa crossing. Thus, the Damascus government has separated its areas from those of the Administration by closing these crossings.

This comes days after Russia reached an agreement with Turkey to open three crossings in the areas occupied by Turkey in Syria, two of them in Idlib and the third in Aleppo.

Seeking concessions in their favor''

By closing the crossings, the Damascus government is trying to put pressure on the Autonomous Administration to make concessions to it, and this is what the Russian "guarantor" made clear through its request more than once from the Autonomous Administration to hand over Ain Issa district to the government forces present there, to stop the Turkish attacks on it.

Likewise, Al-Jazira canton has recently witnessed riots in some of its cities, such as Qamishlo and al-Hasakah, where the "National Defense" of the Damascus government is stationed.

Gilo Issa believes that "everyone knows who moved the people inside the cities of al-Hasakah and Qamishlo to stir up trouble. Of course it is the Syrian regime and with the approval of Turkey and Russia, and this matter is no longer hidden from anyone. In the areas of the Administration, the regime withdrew under the pressure of the Free Army and ISIS, and we met out peple's calls and liberated them from ISIS mercenaries, and despite this, we did not think about separation, and our demand is to build a democratic and parliamentary Syria."

The areas of north and east Syria have been exposed in the recent period to many attacks directly by the Turkish occupation state that uses its aviation and its mercenaries in an effort to harm civilians, or indirectly by cutting off drinking water of the city of al-Hasaka, or lowering the water level of the Euphrates River to affect all living life aspects..

The government of Damascus participates with the Turkish occupation state in achieving its goals in the region because of the steadfastness of the people there, and the closure of the crossings is the best evidence of the two countries' partnership in emptying the region of its residents.

Gilo Issa points out, "More than two months ago, the water level of the Euphrates River was reduced at the time of watering agricultural crops with the presence of agreements signed regarding the level of water coming to the Syrian lands from Turkish lands, and we do not forget the Alouk station, from which the water was cut off before by the Turkish occupation state, and if we link things together, we will reach a point, which is that the matters in which the occupation state fails are implemented by the Syrian regime or in another way."
