After Corona cases in north and east Syria increased, calls for adherence to preventive measures
A doctor specializing in chest diseases called for the need to adhere to preventive measures, to prevent infection with the Corona virus, after the recent increase in the number of virus infections, while citizens confirm that failure to adhere to preventive measures is one of the most important reasons for the increase in infections.
During the final week, the Autonomous Administration areas recorded about 101 cases almost daily, after the number of infections had decreased to 3 during the last period, as the alarm sounded again in the region.
'First infection and precautionary measures'
The first case of Corona virus (Covid-19) for a man in his fifties was detected in north and east Syria in April 2020.
Before announcing the first case of infection, the Autonomous Administration formed a crisis cell to confront the virus in the areas of north and east Syria on March 14, 2020.
Within this framework, the Crisis Cell took a number of decisions, the most important of which was declaring a state of emergency within the areas of north and east Syria, to prevent the virus from reaching the region, as well as emphasizing sterilization and prevention measures that included all public departments and civil institutions, in addition to increasing awareness campaigns and testing centers, and the suspension of hours in schools and universities.
The Health Body began opening medical points in the areas of north and east Syria and at all the crossings overlooking them, in addition to closing the Semalka border crossing after the emergence of cases in Başûr Kurdistan, in addition to preparing quarantine facilities distributed over the entire areas of north and east Syria.
'Curfew'
On March 19, 2020, the Co-presidency of the Executive Council of North and East Syria issued a circular in which it mentioned several decisions it had taken to confront the Corona virus, which posed a serious threat to the world and the region, including the decision to impose a curfew in all areas of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, starting from March 23, 2020.
Hospitals, public and private health centers, international organizations, the Kurdish Red Crescent, pharmacies, sterilization committees, sanitation workers, bakeries, food stores, food transport vehicles, and fuel tanks were exempted from the curfew.
While the Internal Security Forces intensified their presence at the entrances and exits of cities, and demanded citizens to fully adhere to the aforementioned procedures, while the Health Body allocated numbers for emergencies.
In this context, the citizen Abdullah Kanaan from Qamishlo confirmed that the areas of north and east Syria, despite the meager capabilities, were able to some extent to control the virus.
He added, "We must protect ourselves, whether at work or at home, by adhering to personal hygiene, wearing a muzzle, washing hands frequently, using soap and water or an alcohol solution to sterilize hands," noting the need to adhere to all preventive measures enacted by the Health Body, in an indication to some citizens complacency in dealing with the virus.
One year after!!
Despite all the preventive and precautionary measures, and a year after its spread in the areas of north and east Syria, the virus is still able to penetrate all precautionary measures, as the Health Body recorded, till Monday, 101 new cases of infection.
With the announcement of new cases, the number of infections in north and east Syria reached 9,766, including 372 deaths, and 1,300 recoveries.
'A third wave'
The indicator shows a noticeable increase in the number of infections recorded during the third wave that swept across the areas of north and east Syria.
The citizen, Samir Abdel Karim from the city of Qamishlo, said that the vast majority of citizens do not adhere to ways to prevent the Corona virus, indicating that the reason is due to the deterioration of the economic situation, and the inability of citizens to bear the burdens of the curfew because the most affected by the repercussions of the Corona virus are the daily workers who work to secure their daily subsistence.
Samir Abdel Karim stressed the need to adhere to the preventive measures, stressing that "ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
'Mutated virus'
For his part, the doctor and specialist in chest diseases, Saad Hesso, confirmed that the areas of north and east Syria, after the significant decrease in the number of infections as a result of the lockdown, the number of injuries increased in a variable manner, about a month ago, to return with the same force again.
He added: "During my treatment of patients, I noticed that the symptoms of the virus this time differed from its predecessors. In the second wave, the virus used to affect the digestive and respiratory system, but the majority of patients complained of shortness of breath during the review."
Different symptoms
The doctor added, "As for the symptoms that have appeared on patients recently, they affect the respiratory system directly," which is likely to be the cause of climate change, and citizens' failure to adhere to the principle of social distancing.
Hesso indicated that the age group from 20 to 40 years is more vulnerable and affected by the virus, explaining: "In the past, the virus was proceeding according to a specific protocol, in other words (the virus in its beginnings was going through three specific stages, the first phase is the viral phase, and the second is the Aryan phase and the last stage is the Storm Saito Kenya).
He indicated that the virus that has spread recently affects the respiratory system on the first day of infection, explaining: "The virus, with its current attack, strikes the respiratory system and affects the lungs significantly."
In addition, Hesso stressed that the virus, with its third attack, is not as severe as the previous virus, which was not contagious (i.e. only two or three individuals were infected). As for the virus in its current version, it is of less risk and affects all family members.
'Adherence to global recommendations'
On how to overcome the virus and prevent infection, Dr. Saad Hesso indicated that international recommendations are essential to wearing a medical mask, personal hygiene, and adhering to the principle of social distancing.
The doctor and specialist in chest diseases, Saad Hesso, called on people not to underestimate the Corona virus, stressing that adherence to preventive measures is one of the best and most appropriate ways to avoid infection.
