This came during an interview held by our agency with the Egyptian journalist and political analyst Mahmoud Bassiouni, about the latest Turkish statements in an attempt at rapprochement with Egypt.

He said: "I imagine that the Turkish oppression in front of Egypt had terrified the Brotherhood and proved to them that their bet on the Turks was a disappointed bet, and that their agents, their intelligence with the Turkish regime and their betrayal of their homelands concluded in presenting them to the Egyptian state as a gesture of goodwill to improve the relationship and get rid of them."

The Egyptian journalist pointed out that Erdogan's contradictory talk about Egypt confused his supporters in the Islamic movement, as he retracted all his accusations against Egypt regarding democracy and described what happened in Egypt as a coup d'état.

He added: "Turkey has reached the conviction that it acted in a wrong way with the June 30th Revolution, and that its bias towards the Brotherhood and its support for terrorist groups caused its loss and regional siege, and the exposure of its project to occupy parts of the Arab countries as part of its project to restore the new Ottoman Empire was strongly rejected on the part of the majority of Arab countries."

The Egyptian political analyst indicated that Erdogan began talking about the interests between the two countries, and said: "Erdogan is communicating with the Egyptian leadership, which he had announced earlier that he would not deal with under any circumstances, which led to the confusion of the Islamic movement."

Mahmoud Bassiouni asserted that Egypt has not yet announced its position with "Turkish praise" links; rather, it remained silent and quiet diplomatic work, and allowed the Turkish side to retreat from its previous arrogance for the sake of rapprochement.

According to the Egyptian analyst, Egypt will not back down from its alliances in the eastern Mediterranean with Cyprus and Greece, especially since Cairo is the Mediterranean Gas Forum's headquarter.

Bassiouni pointed out that Egypt will determine its position on Turkey according to the extent of the credibility of the Turkish side in the rapprochement with Egypt, and Egypt's interest from the restoration of relations with Turkey, especially since the Egyptian people feel disappointed by Turkey's support for terrorist organizations, causing Egyptians martyrs during confrontations with these organizations.

At the end of his speech, Egyptian journalist and political analyst Mahmoud Bassiouni noted that Turkey must adhere to the policies of good neighborliness and stop its interference and threats to Arab national security, of which Cairo declared its defense.
