Başûr government must support forces defending Şengal

On November 13, Şengal city was liberated, while the Yazidis worked to establish their autonomous administration and their military forces in order to defend, protect, and manage Şengal's affairs, and to protect the Yazidi people from massacres.

On October 9, 2020, the governments of Hewlêr and Baghdad concluded an agreement aimed at controlling this region, after they had withdrawn their forces from Şengal after ISIS attacks.

A number of Yazidis from Qamishlo city spoke to our agency about the matter.

Hami Khelo, from Qazlajo village of Amuda district, referred to the massacre that Şengal was subjected to in 2014, while the Turkish occupation state continues its efforts to occupy Şengal, and added on the topic: "Şengal is the homeland of the Yazidi Kurds, we are a peaceful people, we did not harm anyone."

You must defend us against the Turkish state

Khelo said that the Turkish occupation state is seeking, through the occupation of Şengal, to completely eliminate the Yazidi community, and he also said: "The Turkish state occupied Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî. We appeal to the countries of the world to protect us from the Turkish state and its mercenaries."

Leyla Ibrahim, from the village of Tirbê Spiyê, said that the aim of all the massacres that the Yazidi people were subjected to is to drive them out of their land and force them to displace, while the enemies are still continuing these attacks and seeking to exterminate the Yazidi people, and she said in this regard: "The agreement between Hewlêr and Baghdad during this period is a continuation of the massacre."

Leyla noted that Şengal people's opinion must be taken into account in any agreement on Şengal, and said on the topic: "Şengal is no longer the same as it was before, during this period, Şengal People's Council was established, and the people of Şengal must organize their affairs in this council."

Leyla noted that the goal of the enemy’s occupation of Şengal is the elimination of the Yazidis and the Yazidi religion.

Suleiman Delf, from Khirbet Ghazal village of Amuda district, stated that all the massacres that the Kurdish people were subjected to, especially the Yazidis, were carried out by the Ottomans, and added in this regard: "The Turkish state has sought from the beginning to exterminate the Kurdish people."

Delf also referred to Şengal people protests against Hewlêr agreement and Baghdad, and said: "The government of Southern Kurdistan should stand by Şengal, not with the Iraqi government."

Delf continued his speech by saying: "Şengal forces must not accept the agreements that were concluded against them. These forces were established in order to defend the land and dignity, and not for the sake of building states only."

On the efforts of the governments of Hewlêr and Baghdad to end Şengal Protection Forces, Delf said: "If this happens, Şengal will not remain. The government of Southern Kurdistan must support the forces that defend Şengal."

As for Ismail Kalo from the village of Khirbet Ghazal, he noted that the unity of the Kurdish people is the guarantee of ending the Turkish state’s plans against the Kurdish people. He also added: "There are some Kurdish parties that side with the Turkish state."

The troop withdrawal in 2014 was an orchestrated plan

Kalo pointed to the withdrawal of Hewlêr and Baghdad government forces from Şengal in 2014, opening the way to ISIS, and withdrawing all weapons from Şengal, and said, "These matters were an orchestrated plan." He also added: "The government of Southern Kurdistan had the power, but it withdrew from Şengal with knowledge."

On August 3, 2014, ISIS mercenaries attacked Şengal region, killing thousands of Yazidis and burying them in mass graves, in addition to kidnapping thousands of women and children.

Kalo indicated that the enemies will always try to hatch conspiracies and plots against Şengal, and he said in this context: "But the people must be vigilant about the enemy's plans because there is a constant danger against Şengal, and the Yazidi community must confront the agreements that are being hatched against them."

Kalo noted that the Yazidi people must escalate resistance against the plans targeting them.
