On February 10, Turkey launched an attack on Garê mountains in Başûr Kurdistan, and as a result of the strikes it had received at the hands of the People’s Defense Forces, it announced the cessation of its attacks at dawn on February 14.

In this context, the Palestinian writer and political analyst Nasser Shabat believes that this attack “came with various and important political dimensions, starting with the economic objectives through which Turkey intends to damage Iraqi property and capabilities, to the complicity of the Barzani government with Turkey, which is the most prominent factor.

The writer pointed out that the relationship between Turkey and the Iraqi Kurdistan government comes at the expense of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, which is facing its two-part conflict with the Turkish government and the Barzani government against the captive struggler Abdullah Ocalan.

He mentioned that Turkey's accounts in these attacks are multiple, including: Discovering the reactions of the American administration, especially that the latter is governed by a new structure, headed by Joe Biden, and its interests in Iraq are still strong, and it is unclear how it will deal with the files of Iraq and Turkey. Therefore, these attacks were a bell to knock on the door of American stance.

He added that there are other goals, including "Turkey's aim to export its image as able to the countries of the region and the world, meaning that it is able to implement what it wants from the interests and not give up its influence."

Frankly speaking, it wants to say to all parties, including European and American, "We are an insurmountable force in the region."

There is an internal dimension in the Turkish issue, which may have a role in the attacks, "The increase in the proportion of internal opposition to Erdogan." Therefore, Erdogan is trying to use external adventures in Syria, Iraq and the Mediterranean to distract internal opinion through imaginary victories."

Shabat pointed out that the conflicts and fronts that the Turkish government opens with its regular army is neither in its interest nor in the interest of its "economic revival, despite all its strength."

At the end of his speech, Shabat said: “Turkey has no way out, except by reconciling with its neighbors and containing the Kurds, not as a Kurdish minority, but as a part that has its rights as everyone else, and that the Turkish attacks on the Kurdistan Revolutionary Party do not constitute a center of strength for them as much as they open the doors of the conflict and increase its pace in the region."
