To prevent farmers from entering the capital, Indian police dig trenches and spread barbed wire

Reuters reported that the Indian police and paramilitary forces dug trenches and deployed barbed wire around the Indian capital, New Delhi, to prevent the arrival of protesters.

Internet and messaging services were blocked in several neighborhoods in the suburbs, as the protests turned into a violent week, and security was intensified around Parliament and other important government offices in the Central Region, and this comes as the Finance Minister prepares to hand over the annual budget to the government in Parliament.

"The government has strengthened security measures to avoid any clash or violence when Parliament is in session," a senior official told Reuters.

For his part, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said yesterday that the farmers who attacked the historic "Red Fort" in New Delhi during their protest against the agrarian reform this week insulted the entire country, as a procession of farmers turned into a protest that led to violence, on the 26^th January, when India celebrated its Republic Day with a military parade, as some demonstrators defected from a march of tractors and stormed the historic Red Fort complex, after breaking through the checkpoints and clashing with the police.

Modi's criticism of the protesters comes as they are waiting for a response to their demands to abandon the land reform law, which they consider is designed by the government according to the interests of companies specializing in the distribution of agricultural products they buy from them and not in their interest as producers.
