GCC: Condemns foreign interference, rejects demographic change in Syria

In the closing statement of its summit, the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council affirmed its rejection of foreign interference in the Arab countries, without openly addressing the Turkish occupation, and called for a political transition in Syria, expressed its rejection of the demographic change in it, and praised international efforts to combat terrorism.

The Council welcomed the signing of the "Al-Ula Statement," "which aims to strengthen the unity and cohesion between the countries of the GCC and the return of joint Gulf action to its normal course, and to maintain security and stability in the region."

Anti-terrorism

The Supreme Council affirmed the firm positions and decisions of the Cooperation Council towards terrorism and extremism, regardless of its source, forms and manifestations, motives and justifications, and the work to dry up its sources of funding, and stressed that tolerance and coexistence is one of the most important principles and values upon which the societies of the GCC countries are built with other peoples.

The Supreme Council praised the efforts of the US-led international coalition in pursuing the leaders of ISIS terrorist, affirming the continuation of the GCC states in their relentless efforts with their allies in combating terrorism and confronting terrorist ideology.

The Council welcomed the decision of the United States of America to classify the so-called "Al-Ashtar Brigades" and "Saraya Al-Mukhtar" terrorist organizations in the Kingdom of Bahrain that are supported by Iran as terrorist organizations, which reflects the commitment to confront terrorism and its supporters and instigators.

The Council praised the decisions of the countries that classified "Hezbollah" as a terrorist organization, in an important step that reflects the international community's keenness on the importance of confronting all forms of terrorism and its organizations at the international and regional levels, and urges friendly countries to take such steps to confront terrorism and dry up its sources of financing.

Rejection of foreign interference in Arab countries

The Supreme Council affirmed the positions of the Cooperation Council rejecting foreign interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries from any party, and the need to stop provocative actions by fueling conflicts and strife, and to affirm respect for the principles of sovereignty and non-interference and respect the privacy of countries based on international charters, norms and laws that regulate relations between Countries.

Strengthening state sovereignty in Iraq

The Supreme Council affirmed its firm positions and decisions regarding Iraq, stressing the importance of preserving the integrity, unity of its territory, full sovereignty, Arab identity, social fabric, national unity, and supporting it for confronting terrorist groups and armed militias and strengthening state sovereignty and law enforcement.

Syria ... support for the political transition and rejection of demographic change

Regarding the Syrian crisis, the SC confirmed on a political solution based on the principles of (Geneva 1), and Security Council Resolution No. 2254, which provides for the formation of a transitional government body to manage the country's affairs, drafting a new constitution for Syria, and preparing for elections to chart a new future for Syria and realizes the aspirations of the brotherly Syrian people.

The Supreme Council expressed its hope that the meetings of the Constitutional Committee in Syria would result in a speedy consensus, and that this would help the efforts exerted to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis and achieve the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people, reiterating its support for the efforts of the United Nations to achieve this.

The Supreme Council renewed its support for the efforts of the United Nations to work on returning Syrian refugees and displaced persons to their cities and villages under international supervision in accordance with international standards, providing them with support in countries of asylum, and rejecting any attempts to bring about demographic changes in Syria.

The Supreme Council also affirmed its firm stances towards preserving the territorial integrity of Syria, respecting its independence and sovereignty, rejecting regional interference in its internal affairs, and everything that affects Arab national security and threatens international peace and security.

The Supreme Council once again expressed its condemnation of the Iranian presence in and interference in the Syrian affairs, and demanded the exit of all Iranian forces, Hezbollah militias and all sectarian militias that Iran had recruited to operate in Syria.
