US House of Representatives abolishes Trump's veto against Defense Budget Act

The proposal to abolish Trump's veto against the defense budget according to Agence France-Presse won 322 votes to 87, as 109 Republican lawmakers joined the vote alongside fellow Democrats who dominate the House.

A similar proposal would be presented in the Republican Senate, where the motion would also have to receive the support of two-thirds of the House members to nullify the president's veto.

This month, the Congress approved the defense budget of 740.5 billion dollars, which includes increasing the salaries of soldiers, by 335 votes against 78 in the House of Representatives, and 84 votes to 13 in the Senate.

Trump rejected the law because it did not include repealing Article 230, which protects internet company owners from user-posted content.

Trump also rejected a provision that would remove the names of generals who fought alongside the separatist, pro-slavery south during the Civil War from US military bases.

In addition to the defense budget, Trump used a presidential veto against nine laws during his tenure, but Congress was unable to collect the votes needed to overturn any of them.
