Iraq ... after evening clashes, demonstrations and road blockages in Dhi Qar

Hundreds of Iraqi demonstrators returned this morning to al-Haboubi Square in Dhi Qar, and set up tents again after their tents were burned yesterday in violent incidents that witnessed deaths and injuries as a result of clashes between demonstrators and supporters of the Sadrist movement.

Al-Sumaria News said that demonstrators from Dhi Qar Governorate returned to Al-Haboubi Square on Saturday morning, after the riot police withdrew from it.

The website quoted an Iraqi security source as saying: "The demonstrators blocked the Civilizations Bridge and al-Baho cross with burning tires."

For his part, the governor of Dhi Qar, Nazem al-Waeli, confirmed that the security situation in the governorate is stable, and the curfew came in anticipation of any emergency.

Security sources reported that five protesters were killed and 80 others were injured yesterday evening, as Sadr’s supporters stormed al-Haboubi Square in the city of Nasiriyah in Dhi Qar Governorate, which is where the Tishreen protest movement activists are stationed.

Yesterday, tens of thousands of Sadr supporters gathered in Nasiriyah and Baghdad, in a show of political power, as the legislative elections scheduled for next June approach.
