On Friday, the local newspaper Aravot reported that Armenian Defense Minister David Tunoyan had submitted his resignation, while Reuters reported that Tonoyan had held his post since May 2018.

Government sources confirmed to Armenian Press that Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan had submitted his resignation.

Meanwhile, according to unconfirmed media reports, the prime minister's chief advisor, Pashinyan Vagarshak Harutyunyan, will be appointed as defense minister.

The government of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is under pressure to resign, as thousands of protesters are calling for him to leave office, following the conclusion of a ceasefire agreement ensuring that Azerbaijan retains the territories it controlled in Karabakh after six weeks of fighting.
