About 50 people killed in southern Yemen

Security officials confirmed that about 50 people have been killed since the beginning of this week, as a result of renewed clashes between Yemeni government forces and the Transitional Council in the south of the country.

The Associated Press, citing security officials, said that 47 members of the Yemeni government forces and the Transitional Council were killed in the south of the country, and 90 others were wounded.

The officials, who asked not to be named, stated that the clashes were concentrated in the city of Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan governorate. They described these clashes as "the fiercest" in months.
