At dawn Wednesday, Israeli jets launched raids targeting military positions in the southern region near the Golan Heights, killing and wounding several people, and also inflicting some destruction civilians' properties, according to Syrian government sources.

While the Syrian government sources announced that the Israeli shelling had killed 3 of its soldiers and wounded another, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the shelling had killed 10 people of Syrian, Arab and Iranian nationalities as a result of the Israeli shelling of Damascus and its countryside.

In a statement, the Israeli army said that the strikes targeted sites belonging to the Iranian Quds Force and the Syrian army, noting that warehouses, command headquarters, and military complexes, in addition to surface-to-air batteries, were targeted.

Israeli army statement added that the raids were "in response to the planting of the field of explosive devices near the border fence with Syria and inside Israeli territory by a Syrian cell that acted under Iranian direction."

As a result, the Israeli army declared a state of alert at the northern border, while Defense Minister Benny Gantz warned the Damascus government of the consequences of any "potential aggression."
