Ahmet Davutoğlu: Erdogan is more dangerous than coronavirus

Ahmet Davutoğlu, a former ally of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said that the latter represents a greater threat to the world than the coronavirus pandemic, according to what was reported by the UAE newspaper, The National.

Ahmet Davutoğlu stressed that the greatest danger to Europe and the world is the culture of despotism, which was spread by populist leaders like Erdogan, and said: "The criterion of a tribal state is the lack of choice, and choice is the measure of democracy."

He continued: "As long as our people suffer, and there is deep corruption, and the dignity of our country is insulted abroad, we will continue to call for early elections."

In addition, the Turkish opposition leader criticized the presidential system of government that Erdogan implemented in 2016 to consolidate more power.

He stressed that the country needs to return to the parliamentary system because "the current system only produces crises."

He renewed his call for early elections, which the opposition began promoting in Turkey in early October.

Ahmet Davutoğlu served as Prime Minister of Turkey from 2014-2016 before leaving the Justice and Development Party and establishing a political movement rivaling the ruling party.
