Greece: Turkey's actions are untrustworthy

Greece has criticized Turkey for issuing the naval notification "Navtex," where the Turkish vessel of al-Raies Aruj will conduct a seismic survey in the eastern Mediterranean during the next ten days, according to the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.

The Greek Foreign Ministry said, in a statement, that the unlicensed Turkish tanker for exploration south of the Greek island of Kastelorizo ​​"constitutes a major escalation and a direct threat to peace and security in the region."

The ministry added that this step, which comes a few days after Turkey committed to proposing a date for the start of a new round of exploratory talks between the two sides, shows that Turkey is still untrustworthy and unwilling to engage in a real dialogue.

And said that "Turkey insists on aggressive and illegal tactics that remind us of previous centuries, and confirms beyond any doubt its position as the main factor of instability and lawlessness in the region."

"Greece will continue to defend its sovereignty and its sovereign rights, while at the same time contributing to strengthening regional security and stability," it said.

Last month, Ankara pulled the seismic vessel of al-Raies Aruj from Greece's continental shelf to "allow diplomacy" ahead of the EU summit, and European leaders threatened Turkey with sanctions if it continued its operations in the region.
