European military official: We supported Greece against Turkey in Middle East crisis

The Head of the European Military Commission General Claudio Graziano stressed to Al Arabiya on Monday that the escalation between Turkey and Greece in the Middle East is closely being monitored.

He disclosed that the Union's countries supported Greece in the Middle East crisis.

General Claudio Graziano pointed out that the marine security in the Mediterranean is a priority for the European Union, highlighting the importance of guaranteeing the security of the Union's members. 

He said that Russia represents some challenges in the Mediterranean, along with terrorism and the illegitimate emigration.

He mentioned that the European Military Commission participated in Berlin meetings on Libya.

General Claudio Graziano made it clear that Eirene Force deals firmly with any violation, and is working to prevent smuggling weapons to Libya.

On Monday, the Turkish excavation ship withdrew from its site off the Cypriot coasts and headed to north towards the Turkish ports to be the second excavation ship that Turkey withdrew from eastern Mediterranean after it provoked a dangerous crisis with each of Greece and Cyprus.
