Iraq is about to take security measures to stop the attacks on Baghdad

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received a phone call from US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday, and the discussion focused on bilateral relations and ties between the two countries, and on the initial decision of the US administration to withdraw the embassy from Baghdad.

According to the statement, Hassan expressed "concern about this decision, despite it being a sovereign decision on the American side, but it may lead to results that are not in the interest of the Iraqi people," noting that "the Iraqi government has taken a number of security, organizational, political, and diplomatic measures to stop Attacks on the Green Zone and the airport.

He added that the measures will take a positive and tangible direction very soon.

For his part, the American minister stressed in the statement that "US-Iraqi relations are important for both sides, and the two sides also discussed various future possibilities regarding the status of diplomatic missions in Baghdad."

And the US Secretary promised, according to the statement, to "take into account what was raised in the discussion."

Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned the Iraqi Prime Minister that Washington might close its embassy in Baghdad and withdraw its staff due to repeated attacks on the embassy.
