The Russian ambassador in Cairo, Georgy Borisenko, confirmed on Thursday that his country does not see any justification for continuing the embargo on Iran, considering that Washington is trying to provoke Tehran and push it towards a military confrontation.

He also made it clear that Moscow welcomes the holding of a dialogue among the countries of the region to resolve differences, adding that Europe also shares his country’s attitude calling for dialogue in order to resolve the outstanding issues.

Regarding Tehran's interference and its expansion via a number of groups in several Arab countries which raises the concerns of influential countries in the region, the Russian ambassador said: "We respect the opinion of the Gulf states regarding Iran, but it is better to talk and not fight it. He continued: "Any military escalation will harm the Arab countries."

In the same context, the Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov described the United States' statements regarding the re-imposition of UN sanctions on Iran as absurd, adding that it had no legal or political reasons to do so, according to the Russian Information Agency.

In turn, Beijing considered Washington's move illegal, and the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Zhao Legian, said today that the United States has no right to request the re-imposition of UN sanctions on Iran after the withdrawal from the nuclear deal.

He also added during his press conference: "We have repeatedly said that the United States has already withdrawn from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, and therefore has no right to request the restoration of the United Nations' sanctions system against Iran."

This came, after the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned Russia and China not to ignore the re-imposition of all United Nations' sanctions on Iran before heading to the Security Council today for his president to hand over his country's request to activate the "Snapback" mechanism.

It is worth mentioning that this mechanism stipulated in the nuclear agreement concluded with Iran in 2015 allows the re-imposition of all UN sanctions on Tehran if a state party to the agreement requests this on the grounds that Tehran violates the obligations stipulated in the agreement.
