The " Democracy March " arrived in Ankara

Since June 15^th, the Democratic Peoples' Party has been organizing a mass rally to protest the Turkish authorities' takeover of municipalities, the arrest of mayors, and the deprivation of Kurdish parliamentarians from membership of Parliament. The march, which was organized under the slogan "March of Democracy against the Coup" was launched from the cities of Colemêrg and Edirne.

On the sixth day, the march reached the Turkish capital, Ankara. The Democratic Peoples' Party decided that the cities of Edirne and Colemêrg should be the starting point for the march, given that the former Co-chair of the Democratic Peoples' Party Salahuddin Dimirtash is being held in Edirne, while the Parliamentarian Leyla Koven was detained in Colemêrg.

All the components of the Democratic Peoples' Party participated in the march. Despite all efforts to obstruct the march and the intervention of the security forces, the Democratic Peoples' Party continued the march until it reached Ankara.

Massive reception at Colemêrg, Wan, Bitlis, Elle, and Amed

During the passing of the march in the cities of Kurdistan, it was received warmly by the people, the party members, and representatives of civil society organizations. The participants in the march visited the civil society institutions in each of Wan, Amed and Istanbul, and explained to them the goals of the march, amid the support of the civil society institutions.

Despite all attempts to obstruct the march of democracy, the people of Bitlis, Tatuan, Hazro and Kaniya Hênê welcomed the participants in the march with flowers, amid a heavy security spread.

Parliamentarians were attacked in Bismel

 In Bismel district of Amed, the security forces attacked the parliamentarians of the HDP with burning gas, but in spite of that, the participants in the march arrived at Amed and were received warmly, holding the Dabkeh rings, and after Amed, the delegation was welcomed enthusiastically in Ruha and Adana as well.

The reception of the participants in the march in Adana was remarkable, as there was a massive public reception for them.

Important events were held in Istanbul

On the first day, the security forces severely attacked the Edirne wing though the march began in front of Edirne Prison, F Division, where Dimirtash is arrested.

The participants in the Edirne pavilion held important events and celebrations in Istanbul. Important parties and events were held in the districts of Kadikoy, Esenyurt and Beşiktaş, and they resonated widely. Thousands of people in both Kadikoy and Beşiktaş participated in those activities.

The struggle against injustice

The two wings of the march pledged to the joint struggle against the isolation imposed on the leader Abdullah Ocalan, the status of guardians, arrest, termination of the mandate of parliamentarians, war and military operations, and the solution of the Kurdish issue.

The participants in the march arrived on the sixth day in Ankara, and they will make a statement in al-Majlis Park.

We organized the march for democracy, freedom, rights and justice

Upon the arrival of the march to Ankara, the delegation was welcomed warmly in front of the entrance to al-Majlis Park in the city, and there, the co-chairs made a statement about the goals and demands of the "Democracy March."

The statement stated that the goal of the Democracy March is to defend democracy against the fascist coup, and to achieve rights, justice and freedom.

The statement added: "We wanted, through this march, to stop the practices of the authorities that suppress the community, and we wanted to transfer the society's reactions to the street. The march met with great resonance and acceptance from all parts of Turkey. The mass interaction of all proved the importance of escalating the struggle."

Why did the Democratic People's Party organize this march?

The statement also added: "We organized the march for democracy, freedom, rights, and justice. In order to defend the rights and will of 82 million people. We were not alone in the march. Despite all obstacles and difficulties, all other groups of society supported us, we continued the march depending on the support they gave us .

Our party has demonstrated through this march again that it is an important part of Turkey, and a defender of democracy, rights and freedom."
